Obituary: Clifford M. Piper

Clifford M. Piper, 82, a resident of Tewksbury for 57 years, passed away on Wednesday. January 5, 2011 at the Heritage Manor in Lowell.

He was the husband of Agatha (McMaster) Piper, with whom he celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on October 18, 2010.

Born in Blue Hill, Maine on March 23, 1928, he was the son of the late Clifford Minot Piper and the late Bernice (Berran) Piper.

Mr. Piper was raised in Blue Hill, Maine, attended Blue Hill schools and graduated from Blue Hill Academy.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, and was awarded several decorations for his military service including the World War II Victory Medal.

Following their marriage, Mr. Piper and his wife moved to Tewksbury, where they raised their family.

Prior to his retirement, Mr. Piper was employed by the Raytheon Corporation in Waltham, where he worked as a Senior Industrial Engineer.

Mr. Piper attended St. Williams Parish and was a member of the Tewksbury Knights of Columbus, Fr. Francis Coppens Council # 4336.

He enjoyed numerous activities including, jogging, rollerblading, reading, gardening and traveling to Florida.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Brenda M. Piper and her husband Bradford Ralphes of Middleton; Denise L. Gundrum and her husband Edwin of Andover; Eric D. Piper and his wife Joann of Lynnfield; Fern Boeglin and her husband Dr. Eugene of Lexington; Garrett J. Piper and his wife Doreen of Douglas; and Wendy Convery of Hudson, NH; seven grandchildren: Morgan M. Gundrum, Erica and Lynne Piper, Jarrett and Connor Boeglin and Katie and Alan Piper; three brothers: Minot Piper of Abilene, TX; Daniel Piper and his wife Patricia of Ocean City, MD: and Arthur Piper of Florida; one sister, Susan Piper of Maryland; also many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Piper was the brother of the late Patricia Starkweather, Richard and Bernard Piper.

A memorial Mass will be offered on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at 11 a.m. at St. Williams Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. At the request of the family there are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472.

Arrangments were handled by Farmer and Dee Funeral Home, Tewksbury.
