Obituary: Michael F. Tobin

  • Survived by: His wife, Linda (DiChicco) Tobin, and his children, Michael M. Tobin and his fiancee Erin Kinsley and Jennifer L. Tobin, all of Tewksbury.

He is also survived by one sister, Nancy Enos and her husband Jack of Arlington; his mother-in-law, Lis DiChicco; his brother-in-law, Edward DiChicco; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. 

Michael F. Tobin, 54, a resident of Tewksbury for 25 years, formerly of Somerville, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010 at the Sawtelle Hospice House in Reading, following a lengthy illness.

He was husband of Linda (DiChicco) Tobin with whom he celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary on May 30, 2010.

Born in Cambridge on January 6, 1956, he was the son of the late Sheila (Kennedy) Tobin.

Michael was raised in Somerville. He attended St. Joseph Parochial School and graduated from Matignon High School in 1974. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal for his military service.

Prior to his illness, Michael was employed as a mail handler by the U.S. Postal Service in South Boston, where he worked for over 20 years.

He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed coaching in the Tewksbury Youth hockey, basketball, baseball and soccer programs. In addition, Michael volunteered at the Edith Nourse Rogers Veterans Administration Hospital in Bedford.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, Dec. 10, from 4-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. His funeral will be held on Saturday, Dec. 11, at 9 a.m., from the funeral home, followed by his funeral Mass at 10 a.m., at St. Williams Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
