A Full Schedule of Memorial Day Activities

A time of to remember sacrifice and celebrate community.

Tewksbury is prepared to celebrate Memorial Day with a full day of events scheduled, including meals, a parade and a memorial ceremony.

The day begins with a Memorial Day breakfast offered by the Tewksbury Congregational Church. The annual event runs from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at the church on 10 East St.

The guest speaker for the event is  Chief Master Sergeant Laura Noel, a vocalist and the band manager of the United States Air Force Band of Liberty,  and interim Electronic Systems Center Command Chief, at Hanscom Air Force Base.

Sen. Scott Brown and Congresswoman Niki Tsongas are also scheduled to participate.

The parade is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at the Ryan School on Pleasant Street. The parade route will run south down Main Street (Route 38) and end at Brooks Plaza next to Mac's Dairy Farm.

The parade will feature local veterans groups, community organizations and town officials. The Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will be represented, as will local youth sports leagues. Entertainment will include the Tyngsboro High Band, the Stuart Highland Pipe Band, the Aleppo Clowns from the Shriners, Log Rollers, the Mass Brass Band, the Lowell High Band, The Andover High Band and the St. Joe's Clowns Unit.

Tewksbury officials issued the following traffic alert relative to the Memorial Day Parade:

"All side streets that enter onto Main Street will be closed from approximately 12:45- 5 p.m.. The detour for Main Street (northbound) heading towards Lowell from Wilmington line will be: Livingston Street to East Street to Main Street. The detour form Main Street ( southbound) heading towards Wilmington from Lowell will be Marshall Street to Whipple Road to Shawsheen Street to Main Street.  Pleasant Street will be closed in both directions from 12PM for the parade marchers to line up."

Following the parade, the day's festivities will conclude with a cookout for Tewksbury military veterans and their immediate family members at the VFW Post 8164, 87 Vernon St.
