A person barricaded in a room at the Motel 6 on Main Street in Tewksbury was quickly taken into custody on Sunday evening, according to reports.
Public safety transmissions first reported around 7:40 p.m. that the NEMLEC SWAT team had responded to the motel at 95 Main St. for a person barricaded in a room.
NEMLEC's official Twitter account tweeted, "Armed barricaded suspect at Motel 6, 95 Main St. Tewksbury surrenders to NEMLEC SWAT at 7:30 pm. Tewksbury Police take custody of suspect."
NEMLEC is the North Eastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council, a law enforcement consortium of which Tewksbury is a member.
The Tewksbury Police dispatcher confirmed that the person was in custody, but that further information was not immediately available as officers were still on the scene.
Later Sunday evening, Tewksbury Police would not comment on the incident, saying a press release would be issued on Tuesday, but directed any immediate questions to Framingham Police. A message was left on a Framingham Police lieutenant's voice mail line by Tewksbury Patch seeking further information.

I watched this whole happen. Oh it was lovely. I work at Ihop next door. So many things happen at this motel. This was by far the most entertaining. It was like watching cops..only live.

Oh yeah, there were police officers surrounding the perimeter. At first I thought it was a drug bust at the motel. They happen alot. Then the SWAT team showed up. Myself and everyone I work with ran to to the window to see what was going on. The man they pulled out of the room looked quite distraught, he didn't fight back though. It was fantastic.

Sure, I guess our Tewksbury motels have a reputation of being a hiding place for fugitives and criminals. Between the Motel 6 and the Motel Caswell, we could make the program on television "Cops". This is disgraceful and quite scary for the residents of our Town. How can we stop this from happening!? Any suggestions?
