Billerica Man Arrested In Connection With Series of Car Breaks
Series of vehicle burglaries have plagued community for several weeks.
Tewksbury Police have a suspect in custody in connection with a rash of vehicle break-ins over the past several weeks.
Matthew Pierce, 22, of 9 Primrose Circle, Billerica, was arraigned in Lowell District Court this morning and charged with two counts of breaking and entering into a motor vehicle in the nighttime with the intent of committing a felony, one count of larceny under $250 and one count of possession of burglarious tools.
According to a press release issued by Chief Timothy Sheehan, the break in the case came early this morning, when dispatch received a 911 call from a resident on Driftwood Drive, stating that his vehicle had just been broken into.
"The caller gave a very detailed description of the suspect," said Sheehan, including the fact that the suspect was carrying a black backpack and which direction he was headed in.
According to Sheehan, officers responded to the scene quickly and established a perimeter. The K-9 unit was then called in and successfully tracked the suspect into a nearby wooded area, where he was located and apprehended.
"The suspect was located with a black backpack that contained evidence associated with car breaks," said Sheehan.
Several victims have already been identified and Sheehan expects more to come forward.
While Pierce has only formally been charged in connection with two of the breaks, Sheehan says additional charges are forthcoming.
