Cambridge Isotope to Expand Into Tewksbury Office Park

Tewksbury lands another high-tech company.

Tewksbury's recent economic resurgence has received another booth with word that Andover-based Cambridge Isotope Laboratories Inc. will be re-locating some of its operations to Tewksbury.

CIL will be leasing 38,500 square feet of space at the Highwood Office Park, according to a report published by the Boston Globe.

CIL manufactures research biochemicals for use by researchers at hospitals, government agencies, pharmaceutical and biotechnology, etc. According to the Globe report, CIL plans to move some administrative offices to the Tewksbury facility some time in the spring.

The company is leasing the space from BPG Properties Ltd., which owns the office park, located off Andover Street near the Tewksbury Holiday Inn.

What? Why is this great news? Do you think this means jobs? No, it doesn't. These people are already employed by the company and are probably not all Tewksbury residents, by any stretch. Why? Taxes? We have a ton of businesses in this town and our taxes have never gone down, never remained the same for long, but have a funny way of going up, up, up--the more businesses we take on.

Ever wonder how a "bedroom community", say--like Reading--can remain such a nice town and not be forced to become a city like Tewksbury?

Wow Janellen you are truly one negative and miserable human. How is a business moving part of its operation to town not good news? As Karen said, employees spend money in town and maybe there would be employment opportunities for residents down the road. You just might be the inspiration for those Maxine greeting cards. Do you have a bunch of cats?

Better than having a pre-existing vacant building and employees have to eat.

Honestly, Janellen27 may be right about it not bringing many jobs, I worked there for a while, heard about the move, they're just crammed in way too small a building, a few may be hired once everything's calmed down, but not a ton, however, I don't think there's going to be any negatives. They already patronize Tewksbury buisinesses (I know this for a FACT). Why would there be negatives, do you realize the building they're in now is BARELY outside of Tewksbury, right off of 93, Frontage Road in Andover, right next to Raytheon; I don't think they've caused us problems yet. They eat lunch on East Street or at the restaurants around the Market Basket daily. Some find the gas stations here when they're cheaper than at home. All of this happens already and they're in Andover, if they're in Tewksbury, I'm sure it'll happen just as much or more, and possibly a different area of Tewksbury will reap some of those lunch/gas related benefits.
