Crime Wave Strikes Merrimack Meadows Lane

The following information was supplied by the Tewksbury Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A rash of break-ins hit Merrimack Meadows Lanes this week and Tewksbury Police detectives are investigating to determine if the incidents are all related.

The first report came in on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 7:38 p.m. when a Merrimack Meadows Lanes resident called police to report that their home had been broken into. The caller reported that the door to home had been jammed and several items had been taken from out of her strong box.

Things really heated up on Thursday, Sept. 20 when three residents from three separate addresses on Merrimack Meadows Lanes reported that their vehicles had been broken into some time overnight. The first call came in at 8:06 a.m.

The second victim walked into Police Headquarters at 11 a.m. and reported that a lap top computer, a camera, a video camera and pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses had been stolen from her vehicle.

Then, at 7:36 p.m., a third victim from Merrimack Meadows Lanes called to report that her son's vehicle had been broken into some time overnight.

No arrests have been made in connection with the break-ins.

Arrests:

Richard B. Medeiros, 33, 300 Park View Ave., Lowell, was arrested on Friday, Sept. 21 and charged with assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest. He also had an outstanding warrant.

Deborah A. Silvestri, 52, 2 Pond View Lane, was arrested on Friday, Sept. 21 on an outstanding warrant.

John R. Liegakos, 25, 56 Colab Road, Tewksbury, was arrested Thursday, Sept. 20 on an outstanding warrant.

Additional Incidents:

On Friday, Sept. 21 at 12:52 p.m., police received call from the chief risk officer from the Metro Credit Union, reporting that they may be having a problem with a check that might be fraudulent. An officer was sent to the bank, spoke to the manager and filed a report.

Do you have any idea what your talking about?

This area of Tewksbury is the nicest in town, next to a part of Lowell (Belvidere) that is far nicer than 95% of Tewksbury. You would have to sell 5 homes in Tewksbury in order to buy one along 133 in Lowell.

Yeah, right next to that slum known as the Belvedere section of Lowell. Those houses are so run down, huh Mike. Get a clue bud!!

Mike,I feel that at times Lowell is safer than Tewksbury. We moved here to Tewksbury, from Lowell. The first week we lived in Tewksbury, both our cars were broken into. In fact our whole street, the cars were ransacked. We felt very safe living in the City.

Never leave valuables in a car. Anywhere.

Why? When I grew up, the house was always unlocked, car windows were down and nothing disappeared. Having to hide your stuff is not the solution. The solution is making people actually pay dearly for their mistakes. The people who commit these crimes don't get enough penalty so what's the downfall?

It is not when you grew up Tom. I'm not saying it's right. I'm saying pay attention to what your reality is right now, and protect your valuables. Hiding stuff is not the solution, however, an inch of prevention is worth a pound of cure as some old proverb says. The person whose things were stolen likely couldn't have stopped the theif, short of being really paranoid and watching her car the whole time, however, it is likely she could have had them somewhere more secure. Prevent what you can, try to fix what you can't, just don't pretend things are still all "back in my day", because it's not reality, whether we like it or not.

I live at Merrimack Meadows and there were more car break ins last night. I want to know why we were never notified about the crimes last week. A phone call or a flyer from the police or Silva Associates,(our condo association) would have made me more vigilant. My neighbor was hit last night and my car was gone through (I keep nothing of value in my car) and many others. Had I known I just may have caught them, and lord help them if I do.

Relax you imbeciles it was a joke keep leaving your cars unlocked and they're going to keep getting broken into you should have thought of that before you moved there.

Hey funny man, what should my neighbor who got their door jammed have done? It was locked. Have you even been to Merrimack Meadows before? This is a fine community to live in with great neighbors and we have the right to feel safe. It doesn't matter if our car doors are locked we don't want any thugs even checking to see if they are. What exactly is it we should have thought about before moving here anyway? As an imbecile I couldn't quite figure it out.

Oh ya you live in such a fine neighborhood where everyone's cars get broken into every night dumbass. Glad I don't live on that street. Everyone rips on south Tewksbury for having so much crime but north tewksbury is where all the cars and houses get broken into lately. Go figure

You can stay in your parents basement in South Tewksbury. I'm sure you have plenty of friends on X-box you can hang with down there. We don't want you here anyhow.

Mike, unless it's proven that someone who LIVES in that neighborhood is breaking in, your assessment is invalid. Someone from Everett can drive to YOUR neighborhood and break in... wouldn't thugs want to break into neighborhoods that are flourishing?

OK folks, I've removed several posts, either because of foul language or because of threats. People -- you guys are better than that. Debate, fine. But the threats and foul language and over-the-top insults (especially regarding crime victims) need to stop. Clearly there is a bad situation going on in that neighborhood and it would help if everyone kind of banded together to watch each other's property. Might be a great time for a neighborhood community watch to be formed.

Thanks Bill, me and my neighbors have already gotten together tonight regarding a watch. I saved the threats just in case.

TJ, a good friend of mine is up at the Meadows... she loves it there. She's older, and lives by herself but her neighbors are always looking out for her (and each other). Keep taking care of each other. That's what communities are supposed to do.

That is what we do here. Unfortunately we are not immune to crime and we just need to be vigilant. This happened back in 2010 and the cops nailed the punks with some help from some aware residents. I'm confident they will get these punks too and I think they are on the right track.
