Elizabeth L. “Betty Lou” (O’Neill) Johnson, 70

Elizabeth L. “Betty Lou” (O’Neill) Johnson, age 70, a member of a well known Tewksbury family, died Monday, January 14, at The Lowell General Hospital, after a courageous three year battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of William E. “Bill” Johnson, with whom she had celebrated a 46th wedding anniversary this past May 29th.

Betty Lou was born in Lowell, April 8, 1942, one of six children of the late Richard F. O’Neill Sr. and Loretta (Manley) O’Neill. She was a lifelong resident of Tewksbury and a member of Tewksbury High School’s Class of 1960.

She began her career as a clerk at the Middlesex Superior Court, Registry of Deeds, in Lowell, and joined the staff in the Tax Collector - Treasurer’s Office for the Town of Tewksbury. She retired in September 2003, after 25 years of service to the community.

She was a communicant of St. Dorothy’s Church.

Betty Lou was described as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, who especially enjoyed time with her grandchildren. She was also known for her love of animals.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her children, twins, Kerry. L. Talbot and her husband Kenneth, and Shaun M. Johnson and his wife Adrianne (Diamond) Johnson all of Tewksbury; her beloved grandchildren, Eric Talbot and Paige Talbot; five sisters and brothers; Richard F. O’Neill Jr., and his wife Carol (Cole) of Tewksbury, Barbara A. Stack of Lowell who was the wife of the late Gareth Stack, John T. O’Neill and his wife Teresa (McNamara) of Tewksbury, Patricia J. Stotik of Tewksbury, who was the wife of the late Joseph Stotik, Sharon C. Zaremba and her husband Stephan of Tewksbury; an aunt, Mary Manley of Tewksbury; sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Emily Fuccione of Tewksbury, John and Ginger Johnson of Sanford, FL, Joan Johnson of Melrose, and Diane Downey of Woburn; and many nieces and nephews and dear friends.

Her Funeral Service was held Friday, January 18, in the Tewksbury Funeral Home. Burial was in Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials to the Lowell General Hospital, Cancer Center, 295 Varnum Ave., Lowell, MA 01854 will be appreciated.
