Is Journeys Unlimited Travel Still Open?

Little activity at Main Street storefront.

Question: Do you have any idea what’s going on with this Journeys Unlimited travel agency?

Answer: We received this question from reader Lynda Casaubon earlier this month. She had placed a $400 deposit on a trip to Egypt scheduled for April and had been looking to pay the balance since January but had been unable to connect with Travel Agent Mark White (with whom she had booked the trip in November) or Journeys Unlimited owner Kathy Kourkoulos.

We made some inquiries, hoping to be able to provide Lynda with some answers.

According to the owners of neighboring businesses, no one had been working out of the Journeys Unlimited offices, 1269 Main St., since around Christmas.

The office remains fully furnished and there is no indication that it has gone out of business. However, our attempts to reach Mark White and Kathy Kourkoulos via email, phone and Facebook were unsuccessful.

This week, Lynda said she did manage to find another phone number for Kourkoulos and was able to connect, explain the situation and request a refund, as it appears the trip was not booked. According to Lynda, Kourkoulos said she is involved in a legal dispute with White and promised to get back to her.

"I'm hoping she gets back to me," said Lynda. "(Including) my visas for the trip, they owe me $450 ... (I'm) out my deposit and out of my trip."

Most travel agents I drive by I wonder if they are still open anymore. It seems to really be a dead industry.

I booked a trip a couple of years ago with this travel agency and found them to be just order takers. They did nothing to go over and above what they should have done in my opinion. Once they had our money, they had no contact with us. A phone call at least to say have a good vacation would have been extremely welcomed.

This was a good business when Ruthie owned it back in the 80's an 90's. Unfortunately she has since passed away.
