Late Winter Storm Blankets Region
Ap to a foot expected, as snow will continue to fall throughout Thursday.
Residents have woken up to a late-winter storm that has dumped several inches of wet snow on Tewksbury and the rest of the Merrimack Valley.
A Winter Storm Warning, issued by the National Weather Service on Wednesday, will remain in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday.
The storm forced the postponement of Wednesday night's Division 2 North Girls Basketball Tournament game between North Andover and Tewksbury. That game is now scheduled to be played Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Lawrence High.
As of 6 a.m., school had not been cancelled in Tewksbury.
Snow began Wednesday afternoon is expected to be heavy at times Thursday morning. Total accumulation is expected to be between 8 and 12 inches, along with a about one-tenth of an inch of ice, according to the NWS.
Temperatures are expected to be in the high 30s Thursday. There have been high winds reported toward the coastline, with gusts of up to 35 mph.
The storm is causing slippery roadways and delays are expected for the Thursday morning commute.
Tewksbury Patch will keep you updated with the latest storm information, including traffic conditions and any closings or cancellations.

Kudos to the Tewksbury School Department and the Superintendent. Kids walking home in reduced visibility because of snow, risky driving conditions for students, and the constant heavy snowfall. I applaud their sound judgement with today's decision.

I'm with you on wondering where the plow is. The sander has been twice though to put sand on top of the 4 inches of slush tracks. That will be nice when it freezes up tonight.
I felt bad for the poor bus drivers on the uncleared side streets. They did a great job getting our kids to and from school safely and on time.

Someone please tell me where the unspent 2011/2012 snow budget is. We have only had ONE snow storm (not including October). It certainly didn't pay for the removal of 4 inches of snow on the main roads by 8:00 last night. Or salt. Or sand. We got a cumulative total of 4 inches, over TWO DAYS and the roads should NEVER have looked the way they did last night.
