I adopted a cat last spring who was previously owned and have encountered a lot of problems I did not expect. I strongly suggest to anyone interested make sure you obtain all the history from the previous owners (phone or email if possible) and all medical/behavioral from the Humane Society. Don't leave any stone unturned.

Yeah, those pets in the "store" don't deserve a home.

Gee Steve, that almost sounds like sarcasm! Every pet deserves a home, whether it be a rescue or a purchase!

It's not their fault that's where they ended up!

You are all correct, it isn't their fault they ended up in a store... However, the unfortunate truth is that by buying them, you are subjecting the mothers to a lifetime of sometimes horrible conditions and pushing out puppy after puppy after puppy. Until those types of puppy mills are stopped, the only thing the general population can do is stop buying from stores that cannot prove the origin of their puppies. It's a vicious cycle.

What adorable little faces. They can melt your heart! If I didn't have a rescued dog already, I would definitely adopt another as opposed to purchasing a dog. Nevins Farm in Methuen is a great place to adopt a dog, but if you can't make it there, go to your nearest shelter.

About two weeks ago I adopted Karma from the Lowell Human Society....she is 8 months old and as cute as can be, very loving but in need of a little training. Dealing with the Lowell Human Society was a wonderful experience.

I believe Steve was just being sarcastic to Denise's comment. My pup was bought from a farm out west and had little human interaction. He was scared and freightened and growled at most people. I'm happy to say within 6 months he turned around and today is a hundred pounds of love. @Steve - it is unfortunate that you may have bought an animal that is less than perfect. This is why so many people dump their anilmals at the shelter. When the animal becomes sick, doesn't behave the way they like, or requires a couple hundred dollars in tests, it is a simple matter of dropping them off. Those same people then do it all over again. I hope you can find some solace with your pet even though it may require a bit more effort.

I adopted my dog 9 1/2 years ago from the Sterling animal shelter and she has provided us so much happiness and invaluable lessons in caring and love. Unfortunately they had spayed her when she was just 6 weeks which proved to be too early and developed incontinence. Expensive pills for life but wouldn't give her up for the world. If you can adopt a pet ... DO IT!

I did a mixed breed would be wonderful. We probably would not do well with a barker.

Dogs from pet stores are mostly bread in midwest. Even though they come with papers, private breeders are not always welcoming to store bought dogs. They call them fence hopping breeds. I only say that I don't understand y they mix breeds. That is no different. Unfortunately animals that come from stores aren't always treated right either.
