Orange Leaf Ready For Tewksbury Grand Opening
Frozen yogurt franchise has been widely anticipated.
For Tewksbury frozen yogurt fans, this upcoming weekend will be, without a doubt, one to remember.
Saturday, Aug.18 at 11 a.m. will mark the long awaited and much anticipated grand opening of the new, Orange Leaf Frozen yogurt.
Located on Route 38 at Wamesit Place, near the entrance to Walmart, Orange Leaf promises to bring a whole new kind of experience to Tewksbury. Owned and operated by partners Ken Mackey, Gerry Goodwin and Don Coffin, Orange Leaf‘s mission statement is a simple one, “To promote community and family by providing a great tasting, sensible frozen dessert made just for you, by you, in an environment that is as visually uplifting as it is welcoming.”
Orange Leaf arrives in town with a decidedly local flavor. Two of the three owners are Tewksbury residents and the staff is filled almost entirely with local students. With inviting décor, a fun atmosphere, 16 flavors of self-serve yogurt and 35 different toppings to choose from, it seems to have the makings of a popular destination.
The idea to open Orange Leaf came earlier this year when Mackey, Goodwin and Coffin began hearing the buzz about the franchise and decided to investigate further. At that point it didn’t take long for the trio to find out that Orange Leaf was a perfect fit.
“Orange Leaf is a very young but very impressive franchise,” said Mackey. “They started out in 2010 with 10 locations and today they are rapidly approaching 300.”
Of course, the decision wasn’t just about the numbers. “Orange Leaf really does have the best product,” Mackey said. “The atmosphere that the whole package creates really is incredible.”
A lifelong resident, Mackey is especially excited about bringing his new business to Tewksbury, “There’s nothing quite like opening up a business in your own hometown.”
This weekend will mark two openings for Orange Leaf. On Friday, Aug. 17, from 4:30 to 9 p.m. the owners will host a private event for family, friends and some local elected officials. On Saturday, Aug. 18at 11 a.m. Orange Leaf will open their doors and begin selling their brand of self serve frozen yogurt to the public.

The Pushcart has self serve frozen yogurt with all the toppings at a great price plus make your own salad bar, soups and sandwiches and is run by a local family .
Good luck to Orange Leaf hope that dont go the same route as Polo Loco .

I have had really bad experiences with The Pushcart, unfortunately. Would be really nice to be able to count on a service like that.

I feel really bad saying it, but I recently tried Pushcart's frozen yogurt and it was almost inedible...and I'm not a fro-yo snob. The stuff was baaaaaad. But, hey, try it and decide for yourself. It's just my opinion. Needless to say, I am thrilled about Orange Leaf!!!

Agreed, I LOVE fro-yo and was excited when Pushcart started offering it again, but one time was enough. It wasn't good, at all. Orange Leaf is FANTASTIC and I'm glad I won't have to go to Andover any more to get it! I hope it lasts here, but seeing as its Tewksbury I won't hold my breath :/

Better get your Orange leaf thrill in quick , it will go the way of all the other businesses that have died or moved out of that strip mall. Maybe the should have called it Orange Loco or Polo Leaf.

As you know John starting a business is never easy. Hopefully we will last longer than El Plol Loco but you never know in business. Our goal is to provide a great product to the people of Tewksbury with a great atmosphere. As a business owner I could only hope to have the same success as the Pushcart has in Tewksbury all these years. I have eaten at the Pushcart many times and have always enjoyed it. I wish them nothing but continued success.

KEN: I wish you the best with the new business. Franchises are not easy, by any stretch, and I hope you make money for yourselves--not just the owners of the company.

Hey Jon don't know why you would want a business in the town to fail as you apparently do. It's success means more money for the town and jobs for kids. Don't even know why people are comparing it with pushcart. It's apples and oranges. Does the pushcart have 16 different flavors and all the toppings. Actually orange leaf has more than 16 flavors, I believe it's actually 30. 16 at a time. Although its a national chain it's local owners. So why would you want them to succeed.

Opposite ends of Town....different "main" product...room for both to individually succeed. Pushcart already has, best of luck to Orange Leaf! It's a win-win for our Town. :)

Bob if you read the articles on orange leaf you would know that the owners of the Tewksbury orange leaf will be working there. Also agree with Karyn. Totally different market they r going after. People aren't going to orange leaf for salads and sandwiches so they shouldn't feel threatened, which they apparently do. And as far as prices go pushcart isn't that cheap.

People always have to be negative. Good luck to orange Leaf.
Just remember, You didn't build that on your own! Somebody else did that for you.

You people are all so negative. Although other businesses have not succeeded in this location, I think Orange Leaf will be very successful. As a frequent customer of the Orange Leaf in Andover, i know people from all over the Merrimack Valley travel to Andover just for frozen yogurt. Now this new Tewksbury location will be closer for them and this will become their new Orange Leaf store. I dont know why you people are worried about the Pushcart losing business, those two businesses are in no way related to each other at all. The only business that should feel threatened by the opening of this new Orange Leaf is the other Orange Leaf in Andover!

JohnTwocents: Don't worry about Andover's business being cut. Andover residents will still have their own Orange Leaf, and as far as Tewksbury residents go, all but a handfull of us don't seem to know how to get to Andover. Lowell, yes. Billerica, yes. Wilmington, yes. Andover, no.

I wish the new business owners the best of luck! I've been enjoying the Andover location, so it'll be nice to have one here in Tewksbury. I have always liked Pushcart and go to them as well. Their soups and sandwiches are AMAZING! Haven't tried Pushcart's frozen yogurt yet, but will. I wish both businesses the best of luck in Tewksbury! With all of the different pizza parlors and ice cream vendors in town doing okay co-existing, I think 2 fro-yo options in Tewksbury clear across town from each other is a non-issue and people need to stop with the ridiculous criticism. Would you rather see empty storefronts?

Exactly! Plus with all the negativity, I hope people are noticing that there HAS been 'some' progress of late in filling some of those empty spaces. We have Jon Ryan's Pub, Anthony's, and soon al Fresca (sp.?) and Angelina's. Think positive and patronize these new businesses and welcome additions to our community!

Maybe we would get more business in town if the planning board didn't make these companies stand on their heads to get their stores open?!
we need more businesses like this one to improve our town. All the places in our town that look nice are because of private business.

I wish Orange Leaf success - we need more than liquor stores, pizza places and nail salons in town. That said, I do wish OL would produce a product or an option that is healthier. I read the ingredients list of a number of flavors and they're full of food dyes, artificial flavors, preservatives, etc. Flavors like Lemon, Key LIme, Mango and Orange to name a few contain FD&C #5. About that dye I found this online:
"The food dye that's generated the most controversy is Yellow Dye #5, Tatrazine. Yellow 5 has been demonstrated to provoke an allergic reaction in some people and there are FDA regulations that require all prescription medications to post a notice if they are formulated with Yellow 5."
I may stop by once in a great while, but I'll have to stick to my store bought frozen yogurt that's mostly all natural. I don't understand why it's so difficult to produce a product that is wholesome and natural? Especially ice cream or frozen yogurt. The concern for spoilage I imagine would be low, considering the state it's in, so why all the preservatives? And if my lemon flavor is white, who cares? I don't need the dyes to make it yellow. These things are not good for a child's growing body.

Cathy: Thanks for doing that research. Unfortunately, that takes the shine right off the apple, so to speak, doesn't it!
I do not understand why companies will want to market a new product that is supposedly "healthy" or "natural" and then go and sneak all the crap in it that is bad for our health. It's just so contradictory and self-defeating, all the deception! They use focus groups and other marketing tools, but in the end, wind up far from where the initial "wish" was. I agree, white lemon yogurt (or whatever) is fine with me, too!
Maybe Mackey can take concerns such as yours to the owners and maybe, collectively, can bring about these little changes that mean so much.
