Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

Our Whiz Kids This Week -- The State Champion Tewksbury High Redmen

Resilience plus determination equal success.

Tewksbury High Varsity Hockey Team

Accomplishments: The Redmen completed an amazing 2010-2011 season by capturing the Massachusetts Division 2 Hockey Championship with a 2-1 win over Franklin High on Sunday at the TD Garden.

Reasons For Their Awesomness: Almost too many to count.

  • A terrific coach in Derek Doherty
  • A stalwart team defense that shutdown opposing teams throughout the season
  • A wall between the pipes in the person of goalie Niko Cunha.
  • A high-powered offense led by Ryan Doherty, Frank Mazzei and Mark and Derek Petti.

Know a great kid who made Eagle Scout or did your local soccer team take the championship? They may be our next Patch Whiz Kid honoree.

Each week, Tewksbury Patch will seek suggestions from readers for individual  kids, youth groups, teens, and even sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments.
