Thanks for the coverage, Bill. Our street looked like route 93. Cars were getting to the end and didn't know where to go. We cannot figure why they were on Nichols Street. Unless Wilmington PD didn't know the area.

Do you know about another accident at Salem and South? Happened just a few minutes ago.

I walked down there just after the Med Flight helicopter left. Not a pretty sight. I hope this person survives.

That's awful. Area is not well lit, much like many other areas of the town. Salem and South should be a 4 way stop sign. Worst intersection I have ever seen. Hope everything turns out well.

totally agree, I go through that intersection twice a day and have seen numerous people either not know that it's a two way stop, or wait their turn properly only to nearly miss being t-boned by someone speeding down Salem. 4-way stop for all!

Salem and South has been a dangerous intersection for over 50 years. What it needs is a set of lights. Red, Green and Yellow. They had a 4 way stop not that long ago and had a half dozen accidents in less than a day.

Luckily South fire was open and able to respond. Minutes matter, Tewksbury is a busy place now. I hope the outcome is good. Two medflights and a fire in the past 3 days and that is just the stuff that made the news!

Thank God that the South station was open! Prime example of why it should be open. They have had a very busy night.
Saying prayers tonight for the person hit and also for the driver of the car. And for all the first responders out there.

I couldn't agree more about the South Street Fire Station. Minutes matter in a serious situation and they were practically across the street from the accident.

It's not always open there was an accident at south and Salem yesterday and they dispatched engine 1 and ambulance 1 which come from the center fire station for some reason and when I got into an accident near hill street, the ambulance and fire truck also came from the center station aswell

My prayers go out to all involved. And I agree on the South. St Fire station. I work at Family Care Center and we often get emergencies and need the rescue and fire and they are in traffic from the North. Yet again they need a light at that horrific intersection

Its slightly off topic as the accident in this article happened in front of Dandi-Lyons, but I'd love to see Tewksburys finest set up at South and Salem handing out tickets. I've seen people flying through that blinking red light without slowing down. There has to be an accident a week there.

As it stands the south fire station is and has been fully funded for 24/7 staffing for FY 2013. If the crew at the south station is out on another call crews from the center or north station would have to respond. I also agree on the South & Salem intersection. A light is needed but a four way stop would be a nice first step until a light is in place. I travel thru this intersection in the morning at at night and have seen cars blow right thru the stop sign without even slowing down. It's not going to get fixed by complaining here. We as a group need to go to the town hall and make some noise if you want results. I am willing if any one else is.

we don't need 4 stop signs that drivers can "blow right thru". what we need is a smart light that lets cars out of south st at the times when we will get a back up of cars to brook st.
