Redmen Boys Soccer Settles For 1-1 Tie
Tewksbury could not take advantage of an extra man situation against Billerica Friday afternoon.
Ties are a funny thing in soccer.
Some games you are happy to come out with a draw and other games they can be extremely frustrating and disappointing.
Tewksbury coach Steven Levine was disappointed in the outcome Friday, as Billerica outplayed Tewksbury for much of the contest down a man due to a first-half player ejection.
"We had a man advantage, basically the entire second half, and could not take advantage of it," said Levine. "We could not get the guys to do what we wanted them to do. (Billerica) played real tough with that man down. "
Tewksbury would strike first, as Tyler McQuesten scored on a feed from senior Stefan Monteiro at the 26:52 mark in the first half. Billerica would answer at 38:00 minute mark tying the game at 1-1.
Tewksbury did have a couple of chances in the second half as Patrick Bernardo had two runs down the sideline that came up short. One occurred with two minutes remaining as Bernardo's cross was just a little too high for Monteiro to handle.
Junior Alex Bouthot continues to impress in net. He had another strong game and made some crucial saves down the stretch to maintain the tie.
"Alex Bouthot has been playing just awesome," Levine said.
"We have been playing well defensively but we need to get more help in the midfield and on offense and it is just not happening right now for us right now."
The tie is the Redmen's fourth on the season pushing their record to 3-2-4 overall on the season and 3-2-3 in Merrimack Valley Conference play.
"Soccer is an easy game when everyone is playing together," said Levine. "When you are not playing together you hang on and that is what we did today."
The Redmen have a busy string of games coming up as they play four games in seven days. They start the action Saturday at 3 p.m. against Dracut at Andover High School where they will play in the annual MVC play day.
* Next Tuesday's game against Central Catholic has been moved from Lawrence to Tewksbury and will be played at the Wynn School.
