Redmen Roundup: Boys LAX Qualifies For State Tournament
Tennis team blanks Lawrence, softball team drops heart-breaker to Billerica.
The youthful Tewksbury High boys lacrosse team surpassed the expectations of many on Sunday by qualifying for the State Tournament with a 10-6 win over Central Catholic.
The Redmen followed up that huge win with a gritty 8-7 win over Dracut High to improve to 11-8 on the season.
Sophomore Johnny Aylward played hero against Dracut, scoring the game-winning goal with less than a minute to play in the fourth quarter. Aylward had four goals in the game to pace the offense. Colin Quinn chipped in with his first goal of the year.
The history-making season for the TMHS girls' tennis team just keeps getting better. Earlier this week, the Redmen blanked Lawrence, 5-0. Tewksbury is now 11-5 on the year as they cruise into the post-season tournament.
- April McDermott won 6-1 6-2

The Tewksbury High softball team dropped a tough, 7-6 decision to Billerica High. Five runs in the third inning for the Indians put Tewksbury in an early 6-1 hole. The Redmen clawed their way back and trailed just 6-5 heading into the 7th inning, when Billerica's Becky Percuoco tacked on insurance run with a home run.
Tewksbury's offense was led by freshman Erin Walsh, who went 3-for-3. Missy Cordwell added a pair of hits, while Brooke Hardy doubled. Hardy took the loss in the circle.
