Thomas Breaks School Record In The Mile at MSTCA Meet
Cory Thomas put forth his best run of the season in one of the biggest track meets of the year.
Thomas placed third in the Mile at the Mass. State Track Coaches Association Meet over the weekend at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
Thomas' time of 4:22.68 shattered a 38-year-old Tewskbury Memorial High record that had been held by James Stronach.
"Cory is getting stronger and stronger. Coach (Peter) Fortunato has done a tremendous job with him," said Coach Bill Meuse. "Cory has been terrific all season, but is starting to reach another level. He proved that he belongs with the best in the state today!"
Girls Hockey
Westford 5, Tewksbury/Methuen 3
The Red Rangers put forth one of their best efforts, but it was enough in 5-3 loss to Westford Academy. The Gray Ghosts are presently ranked 9th in the state _by ESPN Boston._
Amanda Conway once again led the Red Ranger (4-5-2) offense with two goals and an assist.. Kelly Golini also scored, while Hayley Sutherland, Riley Cote and Sarah Norton each had an assist.
Tewksbury-Methuen was outshot 45-17 in the game but goalie Taylor Lirakis kept the Red Rangers close by making 40 saves.
Boys Hockey
Tewksbury 2, Haverhill 1
It was not a thing of beauty but the Redmen built a 2-0 lead in the second period and hung on to beat Haverhill, 2-1.
Michael Casey and Patrick Doherty had the goals for Tewksbury.
Senior Captain Derek Petti assisted on both goals for Redmen (9-2-1, 6-1-1 MV/DCL Div. 2). Tewksbury goalie Kyle Paquette had a fairly quiet night but made 14 saves in the victory.

38 YEAR OLD RECORD!!! Stronach set that in 1974...that was 2 years before Star Wars, that was when the Bee Gees we're popular! Congrats to Cory!! I coach swimming so I get how monumental setting a team record can be, it's great when ones individual effort in a team sport can be recognized.
