School Committee Poised to Extend Teachers' Contract
Memorandum of understanding would continue terms of existing pact while negotiations on new deal continue.
The status of the contract negotiations with the Tewksbury Teachers Association tops a rather light agenda for the School Committee's meeting Wednesday night.
Unfortunately, with the union's current three-year deal set to expire on Aug. 31, agreement on a new contract is not imminent.
"The union has asked that the terms of the existing contract remain in full force until a new agreement is reached," said School Committee Chairman Mike Kelley.
The committee will vote on a memorandum of understanding to that effect at Wednesday's meeting, slated to start at 7:30 p.m. in the Media Room at Wynn Middle School.
Kelley declined to comment on the status of the negotiations, citing the need for confidentiality.
Also on the agenda:
Superintendent of Schools Dr. John O'Connor will provide an update on the reconfiguration of the elementary schools and will provide information on professional development.
Business Manager John Quinn will provide a transportation update, as well as an update on student specific aides and new Federal grant funding.
