Section of East Street Will Be Closed Next Week

Work being done on the railroad tracks coinciding with water line work.

(Editor's note: The following information was submitted by Town Engineer Michele Jodar Stein, PE.)

Please note East Street will be closed to through traffic on three consecutive days for utility work and repair of the railroad tracks. This will be between the limits of Shawsheen Street and Maple Road on East Street.

On Nov. 24 and 25, Saturday and Sunday, East Street will be closed to through traffic between the hours of 7 AM and 7 PM. Specifically, the construction crew will be between 692 and 800 East Street during this time.

On Nov. 26, Monday, East Street will be closed to through traffic between the hours of 5 AM to 5 AM the following Tuesday morning. The construction crew will be at the railroad tracks during this time.

This work is subject to change depending on the weather forecast.

Please do not hesitate to contact Michele Stein, Town Engineer, at 978-640-4370 ext. 239 with any questions or concerns you may have throughout this process. We apologize for any inconveniences, however, due to the nature of the work with the rail road tracks and the depth of the utilities, the road must be closed.

In advance, THANK YOU for your cooperation during the construction of this much needed water system improvements. We appreciate everyone’s patience.

Finally that crossing will be replaced . You basically have to come to a complete stop just to pass over it .

You kind of have to come to a complete stop at a number of spots along that road. Is a complete pave from maple to shawsheen in the plans??

That stretch of Shawsheen is so beat up due to all the heavy truck volume in and out of the Market Basket warehouse . I hope they plan to repave that whole stretch since it has been long overdue !

That road is so bad and the recent water line patch job has made it even worse. I get so mad everyday I drive over it and think of how high our taxes are here and we have roads in such horrible shape...with signs that say "pass at your own risk"!!

I love how East street was repaved DIRECTLY infront of Market Basket but their trucks use and destroy the WHOLE road!! Repave IT!!

How many other people have had to spend money getting their vehicles fixed because of driving on that road? Because I have and I'm sick of it. I shouldn't be forced to drive miles out of my way to get out of this town.

Also with all the money being spent on the water here how come I still have water that leaves pink stains in my bathroom and smells like dirt????
