Our AARP Tax Assistance Volunteers will be back again this February to assist Seniors with their tax returns. We will begin to accept names right after the New Year. However, as noted, the volunteers will not begin until February. The normal routine is that one signs up at the Senior Center, the volunteers give us dates that they are available and the Director or the COA Secretary will call people to set up appointments. The office then sends out a confirmation of your appointment and a listing of what documentation you need to bring with you. Just recently one of our Senior Citizen's got a call about scheduling a March appointment. The Senior was unclear as to who was calling and said that he would have to check with his wife. Please note that this is not the procedure we follow and be cautious of such phone calls and scams. Do NOT give important information out to anyone you are unsure of. The COA will be setting up appointments around mid January and we will identify ourselves. AARP or our Volunteer assistants do NOT make calls. Beware of anyone other than the COA employees trying to set up appointments or obtain information from you. The COA only makes appointments. We do not ask for personal information.
On behalf of the Council on Aging and staff, a joyous Holiday Season is wished to all. During this time please keep the families and community of Newtown Connecticut in your thoughts and prayers as well as our Military Men and Women and those among us that have faced difficulties and losses during the year. May the peace and love of the season be with you and your families.
Merry Christmas and God Bless America...God Bless us all.
