Senior Center To Host Dance Friday night

Benefit golf tournament scheduled for Monday.

The Friends of the Elderly will hold a dance this Friday, September 9th from 7:00 to 10:00 PM. Entertainment will be provided by the Fred Manzi Band. Tickets are now available at $10 per person and may also be purchased at the door.

 Town 9-11 Ceremonies will be held on Sunday, September 11th beginning at 8:46 with a procession from the to the Pavilion Memorial on Main Street. Ceremonies at the Pavilion will begin at 9:00 AM.

Those golfers participating in the Friends Mary Ann Wareham Golf Connection are reminded that Tee time is 7:00 AM. For more information one may call 978-851-4243.

 Due to the Friends golf tournament, tickets for the October 5th Foxwood day trip will not be available until Tuesday, September 13th beginning at 8:15 AM.

 The Golden Age Club will hold its monthly meeting and GAC Zingo next Tuesday, September 13th beginning at 12:30 PM

 The Silver Tones will hold a dance at the Senior Center on Friday, September 16th from 7:00 to 10:00 PM. Tickets are available at the door at $10 each.

 The following classes will resume in September at the regular times and days:

  • Oil Painting on Thursday, September 8th at 1:00 PM in the crafts room (There are openings remaining in this class. The class fee is $75 for a 10 week semester.);
  • Bunka Embroidery on Monday, September 12th and Thursday, September 15th in the fabric arts room (space is available in both classes);
  • Stained Glass Classes will resume this fall but a date has yet to be scheduled. This class will be held on Wednesday beginning at 12:30 PM.

For more information or to place one’s name on the class interest list, one may call the Center at 978-640-4480 or drop by the reception desk at the Senior Center.

 The Senior Center “Annual Afternoon Tea” will be held on September 18th at 2:00 PM. Tickets are $10 per person. This delightful afternoon will be highlighted by a performance from theater and TV star Richard Clark as he performs “And Now…Mark Twain”. High Tea will be served after the performance. This event is supported, in part, by the Tewksbury Arts Council and the Massachusetts Cultural Council. Tickets sales will end on Thursday, September 15th. The public is welcomed.

 Carnation Belles are reminded that the Red Hat event for September will be the Senior Center Annual Tea. Belles are also reminded to wear the Red Hat regalia.

On September 20th at 9:00 AM, Senior Helpers will sponsor an informal presentation on “Veteran’s Benefits”. The public is welcome.

DJ Jon Mansfield will be at the Senior Center on Monday, September 26th for an afternoon dance. Those wishing to reserve lunch for that day are asked to obtain their tickets by Wednesday, September 21st.

 A day trip to the Big E Fair is being planned in conjunction with the Haverhill Seniors. The trip will be held on Saturday, October 1st. The trip cost is $36 and includes motorcoach transportation and admission to the Big E. Travelers will have six hours to take in the sounds and sights of the fair.

 In October, Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley will offer a six week seminar on “Powerful Tools for Caregivers” which will be held each Wednesday morning from 10:00 to 12:00 noon beginning on October 12th. If interested in attending this free series, please call the Senior Center at 978-640-4480 and have your name added to the seminar list. This program is open to the public.

 Tickets are now on sale for the “Lee Lewis and the Doo Wop Allstars” dance which will be held on Friday, November 4th at 8:00 PM. Tickets are $15 per person.

 Community Teamwork (CTI) and Councils on Aging are collecting items for Veterans. A box for the collection is located to the side of the reception desk at the Senior Center along with a listing of what is needed. On September 13th CTI will be collecting the items donated. Donations of items will be greatly appreciated.

SHINE Counselor, Jill, is at the Senior Center on Tuesdays and is seen by appointment only. To arrange an appointment, one may call the Senior Center at 978-640-4480. The SHINE Counselor is available to advise Senior Citizens on medical insurance options.
