Senior Center To Host Free Movie Showing

Tax help still available for seniors.

A “Welcome Back Dance” with Sam O’Clair will be held this Friday, February 24th. There is no charge for this event. However, one is required to call the Center or drop by and sign-up at the front desk so we have an estimate of how many people will be attending.

Yuen Li, SHINE Counselor, will be holding office hours at the Senior Center on Monday mornings from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Next Monday, February 27th, she will be at the Center to meet and greet people. To arrange an appointment one may call the Center at 978-640-4480 and place his/her name on the SHINE list. Names will be forwarded to Ms. Li and she will then contact people to set up an appointment.

Next Monday Jon Mansfield will be at the Senior Center for another “afternoon dance” from 12:30 to 2:30 PM. Tickets are available at the door at $6. Please note that lunch is not available for those buying tickets at the door.

As previously noted, AARP Volunteer Tax Assistants have begun helping Senior Citizens with their tax returns. To sign up for an appointment, one may drop by the Senior Center or call 978-640-4480 to place his/her name on the sign-up sheet at the front desk. The Director will then call those on the list to arrange an appointment time. Please note that the Tax Assistants DO NOT, however, help prepar Schedule C, Schedule E or complicated/lengthy Scheduled D forms or other specialized forms. Taxpayers with complex tax forms are advised to seek paid tax help.

Those Tewksbury Seniors wishing to apply for Fuel Assistance may also call the Senior Center at 978-640-4480 to arrange an appointment time with the Director. Eligibility guidelines for 1-2 people are: one person may have an income of up to $31,218; and, 2 people $40,824.

The movie “Leap Day” will be shown at the Senior Center on Leap Day, Wednesday, February 29th, at 1:00 PM. All are welcome to attend. It would be nice to know if any of our Seniors have a Leap Year Birthday. We would like to have you join us for refreshments after the movie. Please call the Director at 978-640-4480 if you have a birthday on Leap Day.

At the time this article was submitted, there were only a couple of spaces available for the Foxwood day trip of March 13th. One may drop by or call to see if space is still available. The ticket cost is $21 per person and includes a casino package, transportation and driver gratuity.

The Friends will hold a Corned Beef Dinner Dance on Friday, March 2nd at the Senior Center. Tickets are available at $15 per person and must be purchased prior to the event. Music for the evening will be provided by the Entertainer's Band.

The next Upscale Consignment Boutique “Intake of Items Day” will be held on Monday, March 5th from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Consignors please note that this will be the last intake for winter clothing.

There are only 20 tickets left for the famous “Edwards Twins” performance at the Senior Center on Friday, March 9th. Don't be shut out get your tickets before we sell out. Tickets are available Monday through Thursday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The ticket price is $30 per person

A couple of reminders: (1) The Presidential Primary will be held on Tuesday, March 6th. Due to the primary all activities at the Senior Center are canceled for the day. Residents in precinct 1 and 1A will be casting their votes at the Senior Center. (2) There will be a Giant Yard Sale at the Senior Center on Saturday, March 24th from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, rain or shine. One may reserve a table at $15 or 2 tables for $25 by dropping by the Center to register.
