In its second year, the Community Services Children's Summer Programs offers choices for all ages. Already the programs have seen an increase in the number of registrations which is a testament to the hard work of the staff, according to John Lyons, director of Community Services

From Extended Day to Weekly Enrichment Classes to Sports Clinics, there is still room available, and they won't be turning anyone away, Lyons explained.

"We have a great plan for the summer," he said.

There have been some changes over last summer including moving the Camp Pohelo for students who have special needs to the Ryan School to better coordinate services. He also said that the 4 and 5 year-old program has moved to the North Street School to be with the Summer Extended Day program (Those entering Grades 1-3).

The Adventure Program (Students entering Grades 4-9) will now be held at the Wynn Middle School for Grades 4-6 and Livingston Street Recreation Center for grades 7-9.

Each of the programs for grades 1-9 include weekly trips to Shawsheen Tech for swimming. Other field trips will be offered for an additional fee.

Also new for this year is a Wynn School and Recreation Center newsletter, according to Lyons.

In addition to the Summer Extended Day Programs, Community Services will offer weekly enrichment classes in the areas of Academic, Creative Arts and Sports.

Lyons explained that the programs which end on August 17, will again culminate with an end of the summer carnival. "It is a wonderful way to end the summer," he said. The festive event will include a cookout, relay races and a video montage.
