Swinging Seniors Prepare For Spring Concert

Edwards Twins perform Friday night at Senior Center.

Those people attending the Edwards Twins performance this Friday evening, March 9 at the, are reminded that the show will begin at 8:00 PM. Doors will open at 7:00 PM. However, all seats are reserved so there is no need to come earlier than necessary. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door at $30 per person.

A very special note of thanks to all those volunteers who helped out with the corned beef dinner of last Friday. Word has it that everyone enjoyed the meal and your efforts.

The Foxwood day trip of Tuesday, March 13th is now full. A waiting list will be started. Departure time next Tuesday, March 13th is 7:00 AM.

The Swinging Senior Chorus will begin practicing for its “spring concerts” on Tuesdays from 4:00 to 5:00 PM starting next week, March 13th. As always, new singers are welcome.

Barbara Antinoro will begin instructing “oil painting” classes next Thursday, March 15th. Beginner students are welcomed and encouraged to join this class. There will be a 5 week series at $40 per person. The class will break for a week then return on April 16 to begin another 5 weeks. Those signing up for the full course will be charged $75. One may place his/her name on the oil painting list at the front desk. Barbara will then call those people signed up with details of the class.

Dr. Jeffrey Gorvine and other staff members from the Saints Medical Center Patient Family Advisory Council will be at the Senior Center on Wedesday, March 21st from 1:30–3:30 PM to discuss the interaction of medications, their side effects, new medications, herbals and the importance of keeping a current list of one's medications. Dr. Gorvine will be available for questions; and, old medications for disposal will be taken.

In the evening on March 21st, the Red Hat Carnation Belles will hold a Craft & Chinese supper Night. The ticket cost is $10 per If interested, please note that the last day to purchase a ticket will be March 19th.

A Giant Yard Sale will be held at the Senior Center, 175 Chandler Street, on Saturday, March 24th from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, rain or shine. The public is welcomed to reserve a table at $15 or 2 tables for $25 by dropping by the Center to register. This March yard sale is always well attended. Luncheon specials and a yummy bake table are other features of the day. Kay Maher welcomes and appreciates donations of “baked goods” for the bake table. Those donating other items for the Senior Tables are asked do so on Wednesday the 21st or Thursday the 22nd.

AARP Volunteer Tax Assistants are helping Senior Citizens with their tax returns. To sign up for an appointment, one may drop by the Senior Center or call 978-640-4480 to place his/her name on the sign-up sheet at the front desk. Please note that the Tax Assistants DO NOT, however, help prepare Schedules C, E, complicated/lengthy Scheduled D forms or other specialized forms. Taxpayers with complex tax forms are advised to seek paid tax help.

Yuen Li is the new Senior Center SHINE Counselor. She will be at the Center on Monday's to advise people on Medicare and supplemental coverages. One may leave his/her name and telephone number at the front desk and someone will call to arrange an appointment.

Those Tewksbury Seniors wishing to apply for Fuel Assistance may also call the Senior Center at 978-640-4480 to arrange an appointment with the Director. Eligibility guidelines for 1-2 people are: one person may have an income of up to $31,218; and, 2 people $40,824.

Other up-coming events are the DJ Jon Mansfield lunch and afternoon dance of Monday, March 26th and a Breakfast Benefit on Sunday, April 1st from 7:30 t- 11:00 AM.
