TBBL Travel Hoop Teams Post Wins Over Chelmsford, Wilmington
5th, 6th and 7th grade teams are all off to a strong start.
Tewksbury 7th Grade Blue
Georgetown 43 -Tewksbury 7th Grade Blue 32
Tewksbury got off to a rough start in their game at Georgetown High School, as the quick Georgetown team converted loose balls into 4 layups to pull out to quick 9-1 lead. Tewksbury stepped up their defense, and the score closed to 11-8 half way thru the first half as big men David Stein (4 points) and Ameen Kalkhoran shut down the lane while Ryan Indigaro, Cory Indelicato and Josh Coward (6 points) were everywhere, causing Georgetown turn overs and converting them into points. Connor Dane and Andrew Pacheco (4 points) swarmed the Georgetown offense as they brought the ball up the court. At halftime Tewksbury trailed by a score of 24-15.
Ethan Trudeau made a late appearance, only joining the game in the 2nd half, and he quickly stepped up the pace as he scored 8 points. Chris Bennett and Brendan Murray (7 points) moved well without the ball, getting open, scoring and making some nice passes down in the paint. Nick Zullo pulled down some key rebounds in the defensive end, while Ameen grabbed rebounds and made some key 2H steals. A late game press resulted in 3 quick lay-ups for Trudeau, Coward and Murray, but Tewksbury fell short by a score of 43-32.
Tewksbury 7th Grade Blue 38 - Wilmington 27
Tewksbury played the first of its two games on Sunday afternoon as it took on Wilmington. The boys started off fast on both ends of the court: good defense, a few steals, a few blocked shots, and Tewksbury took an early 12-0 lead. Ethan Trudeau and Corey Indelicato drove the hoop for some easy lay-ups, while David Stein posted up for a few quick hoops from the paint. Connor Dane (4 points), Andrew Pacheco and Quinn Conrad pushed the ball relentlessly up the court, while Chris Bennett (2 points) and Brendan Murray (2 points) hustled on offense and defense. Despite a few key late first half shots by Wilmington, Tewksbury led at halftime by a score of 18-10.
Wilmington made some adjustments at halftime, and surged to a 21-20 lead just 4 minutes into the second half. Tewksbury regained the lead 24-23 at 8 minutes into the half, and never looked back. Ameen Kalkhoran (2 points) and David Stein took control of the offensive and defensive boards, and Ryan Indigaro was fierce on defense, repeatedly ripping the ball from Wilmington’s offense. Trudeau and Indelicato shared leading scorer honors with 8 points each, while Stein and Coward each contributed 6 points. A solid victory for Tewksbury, 38-27.
Tewksbury 7th Grade Blue 41-Lexington 23
Tewksbury got off to a fast start against Lexington Sunday evening at the Diamond School in Lexington. Aggressive defense led to numerous steals and turnovers that quickly turned into a 14-4 lead. Ryan Indigaro and Cory Indelicato were everywhere, causing Lexington turnovers, grabbing loose balls and keeping the ball in Tewksbury’s hands. Good ball movement by Brendan Murray, Quinn Conrad, Connor Dane, and Andrew Pacheco set a nice tempo in the game that worked to Tewksbury’s advantage, as the team took a commanding 28-8 lead by halftime.
The second half pace slowed a bit as Tewksbury worked the offense more deliberately, passing the ball crisply around the perimeter and involving everyone in the offense. Ethan Trudeau was leading scorer with 3 3-pointers for 9 points, followed by David Stein and Nick Zullo, each with 8 points. Ameen Kalkhoran also drained a 3-pointer, and was a rebounding force on both the offensive and defensive boards. The scoring was spread out over 10 players, with Chris Bennett, Josh Coward, along with Pacheco, Dane, Indelicato and Indigaro all contributing to the Tewksbury 41-23 victory over Lexington.
Tewksbury 5th Grade White
Tewksbury fifth grade white travel basketball team got there first win of the season yesterday against Chelmsford white. They got there offensive spark from Connor Brinklow, Mike Rosenburg, Sean Whelton and Tony Mannetta. Who combined to score 26 of the teams points on the night. They also had strong defensive efforts from Matt Cahill, Joe Balboni and Matt Perron. Casey Decost, Shane Contalonis and Derek Schumaker played tough. Chelmsford fought hard and mounted a second half comeback attempt but Tewksbury kept its foot on the gas and prevailed.
Tewksbury 6th Grade Red
Tewksbury 56 – Reading 25
The Tewksbury 6th Grade Red Travel Team won it 2ND game vs. Reading 56 to 25. Offense was led by Jared Mason with 12 points and john Ciampa with11 points. Also scoring was Cam Kelly and David Giuggio with 8 points each. Chris Monteneri, Mason Lorick, Gavin MacDonald, Jesse LaMarca and Troy Acconcia also scored points. Great Defense by Alex Papageorgiou and Makin Macdonald.
Tewksbury 50 – Chelmsford 36
Tewksbury 6th Grade Red Travel Team won its third game of the season against Chelmsford, 50 to 36. Leading the scoring was David Giuggio with 9 points, Alex Papageorgiou with 8 points and John Ciampa with 8 points. Also scoring was Jared Mason with 6 points, Troy Acconcia and Jesse LaMarca with 5 Points each and Masyn Lorick and Gavin Macdonald with 4 points each. Great Defense from Chris Monteneri, Cam Kelly and Makin Macdonald.
Tewksbury 47 – Wilmington 44
Tewksbury 6Th Grade Red Travel team wins it 4Th Game of the season against Wilmington 47 to 44 in stunning fashion with 18 seconds left in the game Jesse LaMarca scores a basket for the win finishing the game with 6 point . Leading the scoring was John Caimpa 14 point also scoring Jared Mason with 8points. Also contributing were Chris Monteneri, Alex Papageorgiou, David Giuggio Gavin MacDonald, and Mason Lorick with 4 point .Great Defense from Cam Kelly, Makin MacDonald and Troy Acconcia.
Tewksbury 5th Grade Red
Andover 47 – Tewksbury 27
The 5th grade Red traveled to Andover to face their A team. Both teams started out slow, sloppy on both sides of the ball. Andover woke up about midway through the 1st half to take a 10 point lead at half time. The boys struggled finding the defensive tenacity they need to play with some of the bigger teams and it showed on the scoreboard 47-27 Andover. Leading scorers for the game were Adam Pacheco with 14 points, Riley Frost 4 Points, Zach Tyler 3 points, Kyle Rossetti, Lucas Frost and Jared Rizzo 2 points each. Chad Boschetti and Jared did a great job rebounding. Connor Nugent, CJ Zemetres and Bryan Ndungn played hard down low against Andover’s bigs. Vinny Hulme distributed the ball well to the cutters off the pick and rolls.
Tewksbury 37– Chelmsford 20
This past Sunday Tewksbury 5th grade Red traveled to Chelmsford to play their A team. The boys were ready to play from the opening tip, right off the bat they showed the defensive effort we need. The boys were boxing out, grabbing all loose balls and hustling all over the floor. Kyle Rossetti had a huge game on the offensive glass grabbing 8 rebounds, he had help on the offensive boards with Jared Rizzo, Chad Boschetti and Lucas Frost each chipping in with a few offensive rebounds. Defensively Adam Pacheco was all over the place, pestering the ball, making steals and playing great team defense. Vinny Hulme played strong defense and hustle while also doing a good job distributing the ball. All game Chelmsford kept feeding their huge power forward, but Connor Nugent, CJ Zemetres and Lucas stood their ground and boxed out. Connor had 5 defensive rebounds, while CJ caused a nice offensive foul. With Chelmsford trying to get back into the game Zach Tyler played tight defense, stole the ball and went strong to the basket for 2 points to keep Chelmsford at bay. Riley Frost had his best game of the year, playing solid defense and working the pick and rolls to perfection. The scorers for the game were Adam 14 points, Riley 8 points, Chad 5 points, Zach and Lucas 4 points each and Kyle 2 points. Final score Tewksbury 37–20.
