TOWN Updates From The Polls
3:30 p.m. Poll workers at the Parks and Recreation Teen Center (home to Ward 2 voting) said they experienced a heavy rush early this morning, as folks tried to get voting out of the eway before they went to work. Voting remained steady throughout the day.
There was exit polling going on at the exit to the Teen Center being done by a worker for Edison research. This is the company that provides exit polling data for all of the major networks, including CNN, FOX, ABC, CBS, etc. So tonight, when you hear about Massachusetts exit polls, know that Ward 2 in Tewksbury is included in those numbers!
3 p.m.: Voting continues to be heavy throughout the town. As of 3 p.m., Precinct 3 had seen 1160 voters, while Precinct 3A had 1218. Plenty of parking at the Lowell Assembly of God and the voting process is going very smoothly.
We also spotted David Gay, chairman of the Tewksbury Board of Selectmen, on Andover Street, holding a sign for Democrat Barbara L'Italien, who is trying to reclaim her seat in the State Legislature from state Rep. Jim Lyons.
11:30 a.m. Exit polling is being conducted at each of the town's four polling locations by Tewksbury High School Seniors. These students are members of the AP Government Class taught by Brian Aylward. We encourage you, if you feel comfortable, to support this project by taking a moment to fill out an exit poll form after you vote.
10:50 a.m.: There has been a problem with a voting machine in Precinct 4 at the Tewksbury Library. According to Town Clerk Denise Graffeo, a memory card in the machine failed and would not allow ballots to be accepted.
Graffeo said she was in contact with the company that supplies the machines and they walked her through the process of replacing the memory card.
As a result, all of the ballots cast so far had to be removed from the machine and re-submitted by hand, by an election worker, for the new memory card. All this was done under the watchful eye of a Tewksbury Police officer.
10:30 a.m.: Voting has been steady, if not heavy, at the four polling locations in town. As of 10:30 a.m., 680 residents has cast ballots in Precinct 1A, 579 at Precinct 1 and 605 at Precinct 4A. The addition of two new polling locations (Parks and Recreation building and Assembly of God Church) is keping down lines and traffic problems.

Love hearing that the AP Gov class is doing exit polling. Studying polling was one of the most helpful things in my college career, would have been amazing to start at TMHS!

I was there when it crashed. Lots of people waiting, but it seemed like it was handled as legit as possible. Police present, witnesses to verify the current count. Just wish there was something a little more official than a steno pad used to record the time and the current count on the machine. Last time I saw this happen, they made a big deal about witnessing (here, look inside the machine; and they actually asked for campaign representatives to be present), but it was too crowded today in such a small space (and people are impatient).
And I was also happy to see the high school students doing the exit poll. I've never been asked to do an exit poll before. I had to ask what they were doing, (they're a little shy), but was happy to fill one out and I thanked them for doing it. They thanked me for voting. Gave me a warm fuzzy feeling that the country is going to be ok.

In this and in all elections I find it funny and no so much at the same time the fact that 1 side will lie/stretch the truth/exaggerate and then will scream and shout when the other side does the same thing. Both sides do it. The worst part no matter what side most are on, they believe their own lies while not believing the other sides truths because they are on one side. And it goes both ways. I wonder what an honest campaign would look like. My guess is that I will never know.

It was great to see the students taking the exit poll.
They are friendly and courteous.
The exit poll is incorrect at districts 3 and 3A the Church.
The exit poll choice for state rep is Miceli or Sears.
the correct choice is Lyons or L'Italien.

It's likely that it was just because he needs a random sample, so he was likely doing something entirely randomized like asking every xth person to come out, etc.

Well at least our town made the right decisions even if our state didn't.

I was disappointed about the ballot questions, mostly because of the impact it will have on my wallet. Medical marijuana will impact my healthcare costs as many will flock to their drs because they get 'migraines' and need to have their insurance to cover their weed! I work in a city where there is rampant drug use in public housing...I can only guess what kind of health plan they have, but I'm pretty sure it involves my taxes! As for death with dignity, I trust my dr and if he's against it so am I. As an EMT I have been trained to be aware of chemical suicides in vehicles. It is an easy way 'out' that doesnt involve legislation with questionable wording that asks physicians to ignore their general principle of do no harm. http://abcnews.go.com/Health/Depression/chemical-suicide-austin-muellers-story/story?id=13788360

I did not vote with the Tewksbury majority, but It was great to voice your choice, it always makes me emotional! I never knew what a "red" town this was.
