Tewksbury Fire Department Receives Donated Haz-Mat / Spill Response Products
Spill absorbent and containment products will be deployed on community’s fire engines.
(Editor's note: The following information was submitted by the Tewksbury Fire Department.)
The Tewksbury Fire Department recently received a donation of products designed to protect the environment from spills and leaks involving petroleum based fuels and chemicals.
“We respond to a number of calls involving gasoline and diesel spills at all hours of the day and night," said Chief Mike Hazel. "The supplies donated to the Department by Ted Morang of A & A Industrial Supply will be used to mitigate the environmental impact of those spills as they happen.”
A & A Industrial Supply is a Tewksbury based company that was initially awarded a state contract in Massachusetts to supply Environmental Compliance Products and Safety Supplies to the Massachusetts Highway Department. In 2001 they were asked to become part of a program initiated by the state to bring municipalities and political sub-divisions into compliance with state and federal waste management laws. The supplies donated to the Fire Department range from absorbent pillows to 100’ long marine spill sweeps.
The wholesale value of the donation is over $3,500. Each fire engine in Tewksbury carries a limited supply of spill containment supplies onboard; additional supplies are stored at the Center and South Fire Stations and are deployed as needed.
“We’re happy to make this donation to the town because we know they use these products and they work," said Morang.

You can recoup monies spent on such equipment from insurance companies of the entity who may have caused a spill, accident etc.... Lets hope if the fire department is called upon to use this kind of equipment the Town looks to be compensated. Thanks for stepping up and supporting your community A&A Industrial.
