Tewksbury Police Win Two More Battles In War on Drugs
Two alleged dealers face charges; Oxycodone, crack, heroin seized.
The Tewksbury Police Department continued to wage a determined war on local drug trafficking with two more arrests on Wednesday.
Benjamin Torres-Ramos, 30, of 247 Salem St, 3rd Floor, Lawrence, was arrested and charged with possession with the intent to distribute a class B substance (crack and cocaine) subsequent offense, and possession with the intent to distribute a class A substance (heroin).
The arrest came after Tewksbury Police Detectives stopped Torres-Ramos' vehicle around 3 p.m. for a motor vehicle violation on South Street. After speaking to Torres-Ramos, detectives suspected Torres-Ramos was involved in drug activity and called in Police K-9 Geox to search his vehicle.
"(Geox) gave an indication that narcotics were present inside the vehicle and detectives were able to locate several bags of narcotics which included, heroin, crack cocaine and powder cocaine," said Police Chief Timothy Sheehan.
Detectives also determined that while Torres-Ramos had a valid Massachusetts driver’s license, he had several aliases. According to Tewksbury Police, Torres-Ramos had previously used the names "Omar Sanchez," "Luis Dejesus," "Luis Ruiz," "Nelson Villaga" and "Luis Dejesus-Ruiz."
Torres-Ramos was arraigned at Lowell District Court on Thursday, Dec. 13.
That same day police arrested Stacy Matranga, 19, of 24 Juniper Lane, Tewksbury and charged her with distribution of a class B substance (oxycodone), possession of a class B substance (oxycodone) and conspiracy.
According to Sheehan, detectives were conducting surveillance on Helvetia Street and saw a suspicious vehicle. They then observed what they believed to be a drug transaction.
Detectives approached Matranga and learned she had sold oxycodone pills from her vehicle.
According to Sheehan, Matranga has a history of drug dealing in Tewksbury. On Oct. 5, 2012, she was arrested and charged with distribution of a class B substance (oxycodone), possession of a class B substance (oxycodone).
Matranga was arraigned on the new charges at Lowell District Court on Thursday, Dec. 13.
These latest drug arrests by Tewksbury detectives come on the heels of arrests prompted by surveillance conducted on Woburn Street, the Walmart parking lot and the Home Depot parking lot in recent weeks.

Half the information in this article isn't even true information. This town is filled with people that love believing the first bad thing they hear about someone. No sympathy no remorse for those that are dragged in and set up into situations like this. These are people too and to make comments this cruel about people that you do not know personally especially when it comes to their family is a little much. Comments on the article is one thing, commenting your personal opinion on someone's family is another thing. Thats not what this website is for and I find some of these comments very disturbing.

@ "ME" they couldnt send her away due to lack of evidence and lack of product according to the arraignment. Combing the two arrests on that one individual less than 200$ seized and a total of two pills. Again, people that love to read and belive the first thing they see. THAT's why she wasn't sent away, and its sad to think the people leaving these comments are supposed to be ADULTS.

This is whats wrong with the judicial system. It would appear from what you are saying she is getting away with selling drugs on a technicality. I dont care if it was 1 or 100 if they are not hers and she is in posession of them and selling them, isnt that illegal. "Lack of product" what a joke!

The TPD should go to TMHS and start with the kids there. Thats where alot of the drugs and medication abuse are takin place. They should show up different days and different times and more frequently then they are doing now. And have consequenses instead of slap on the wrist...i hope more is done soon

oxycodone abuse has become a big problem in Tewksbury. The TPD should crack down on the pills and as well as heroin because once the pills are out of tewksbury all the addicts will go straight to heroin as an alternative. Opiates are a bigger problem than people imagine and there needs to be more awareness on the subject. But you should never judge a family based on what they have done in thier lives this type of thing could happen to anyones kids. People think that their kids would never get into something such as drug abuse but those are the kids who it happens too. Just because someones not a "thug" doesnt mean its impossible for them to get a drug problem. This could happen to anyone and any family. So just because addiction hasnt affected you or your family yet dont think it wont because anything can happen.

They need to bring the awareness into the schools at a younger age than the high school. Unfortunately, for many kids, that's too late. 6th or 7th graders could benefit from hearing some of these speakers they bring into the high school.

I agree with you "Comment". When one of my daughters started attending the Wynn, she reported to me that kids were smoking pot in the bathrooms, and doing drug transactions in the hallways. When I addressed this to the school, they told me that my daughter was overreacting and that there were no drugs in that school. It got to the point where she didn't even want to go to school anymore, cause she was so intimidated by the drug activity. I could not believe the blind attitude the school admistration had, I was furious that they thought my daughter was making it up. This is the age it starts at, and I believe they should make drug awareness as part of the curriculum. Maybe they do in health class, but I don't think it get's the attention it deserves, it is a serious matter in Tewksbury. I want to thank the TPD for all of the recent heroin arrests in Tewksbury, and getting these scumbags off the street, even it if is for only a day. Every little bit helps no matter how small.

6th and 7th is too late! We talk to our kids all the time and have since they started in the Ryan. I have shown them news clips of idiots on drugs. I have shown my son, who wants to play football, news articles of athletes who messed up their lives and playing careers because of drugs. One simple message; DON'T DO DRUGS!
The school isn't where that needs to start. It is the home! It is uncomfortable sometimes but it is part of being a parent today. I tell my kids every day; I don't want to be your friend, I am your parent. My job it to set a path for you and yours is to follow it. We joke and have a lot of fun but they know the rules and the consequences of not following them. We need to talk every day and God bless my wife who insists we sit down to dinner EVERY night as a family. Sometimes at 7:30-8 or later depending on schedules. Talk to your kids. Make them comfortable with these discussions and it will be easier later.

Bob - I agree it's a parents job #1, but I do think the speakers are helpful as well. I too watch shows like Cops, Jail, etc and point out that it all started with someone saying "here try this". I also have heard the stories from the Wynn - you can ask just about any kid where to get something and they can tell you. The elementary schools is too soon for some of these speakers, but the Ryan and Wynn aren't.
Maybe more shock and awe is needed. It's great to hear stories of overcoming addiction, but maybe they need to see documentaries of people who are still addicted and hear first hand how it started and how they don't feel they can stop.

I think that we can all agree that NO ONE want drug deals going down in out town. Didn't half of us move away from the city to ESCAPE this kind of thing? Drug & Alchol problems are not just a family issue but a community issue! It isn't going away. Thank you to TPD for doing their job! Without proper drug & alchol awareness education in our primary schools this issue will only continue to get worse. It is easy to sit behing a computers and throw a person & their family under the bus! BUT NO one & NO family is beyond reproach when it comes to drug or alchol addiction! Everyone knows, works or is related to a person who is or has suffered through addiction of one type or another! My grandfather used to say "THERE GO I....BUT FOR THE GRACE OF GOD". Show a bit of compassion for those people & their families that are dealing with addiction and other issues!

To see such hateful comments posted about a 19 year old girl who is obviously struggling with a substance abuse problem is disgraceful. As a Mother, I would be devastated to read such hurtful comments about my child.
For those of you who feel the need to sit back and write such horrible things about this child and her family, please remember drug addiction does not discriminate and this could happen to someone you hold near and dear to your heart. I am thankful this Christmas that I have two happy healthy young children and I can only hope that I can keep them safe, healthy and drug free.
