We need tougher laws to handle these dirt bags. If I caught this a-hole breaking into my house or any house he would be going to jail in a wheelchair. No forgiveness for people who hurt or steal from others period. Just look at how many repeat offenders we have out there with long criminal records spanning decades.

I think it's great that the resident was able to see on surveillance camera. Can you please share where you purchased your security camera?

Maria - Home Depot sells many different home monitoring systems (some have 8 video cameras including an in home monitor with options to record and save any footage). Unfortunately it is something definitely worth looking into getting these days.

Hi Maria - As many people have commented, there are several commercially available options available to a homeowner these days. Since every home (and budget) is unique there is not one system that can be prescribed;

>A high-end solution: Professionally installed and remotely monitored 24/7. This would run a few thousand dollars to install and reoccurring monthly monitoring fees.
>Middle of the road: Alarm / cable / internet service providers offer wireless cameras which you as the homeowner install. There is a reoccurring monthly fee, but this is simply for remote access to the video feeds, photo stills and storage of the captured footage.
>Last is wireless/wired camera(s) to a local recording device (DVR, VCR or other.)

The first step is to get an alarm system for your home. The catch with the alarm system is that it will not prevent the bad guys from breaking in - if they want something bad enough, they will find a way in. Be it the sliding glass door, windows, back door, etc. The alarm simply cuts down the time that they will be in your house violating your personal space. It (1) gives notification to the thieves and your neighbors by means of the siren and (2) gives notification to the authorities that the break-in has occurred.

The individuals that broke into my home were in-and-out in just under 75 seconds - from prying open / smashing in the back steel door to driving away in their car. Without the alarm in place, it would have been much worse.

These piles of feces represent the lowest common denominator in society. Unfortunately we live in Massachusetts and they will be out robbing houses and performing sexual acts in alleys to fuel their heroin and crack addictions.
