Trees Felled By High Winds But Outages Limited

The following information was supplied by the Tewksbury Police department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A windstorm with gusts in excess of 50 miles per hour felled trees and tree limbs across Tewksbury on Saturday. But unlike previous storms, power outages were limited.

According to reports, the worst damage happened at 686 Whipple Road, where a tree came down and destroyed a deck, narrowly missing the home. A home was stuck by a tree on Columbia Road but there was no structural damage, according to the report.

There were several reports of trees coming down across streets, including Mount Joy Drive, Livingston Street, Astle Road and Trull Road. Power lines came down in some instances but outages were localized and less that 200 customers lost power at various times during the day.

Arrest:

Anthony J. Ferraro, 28, 935 Main St., Melrose, was arrested on Saturday, Feb. 25, and charged with OUI-liquor (2nd offense), speeding, marked lanes violation, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Other Incidents:

On Thursday, Feb. 23, just after 3 a.m., a call came in for a domestic Officers responded and an ambulance was called for a female with bruising on her face. However, it was determined no treatment was required. A report was filed.

Just after 7 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, there was a report of a rabid fox walking around near Animal control was notified.

On Thursday, Feb. 23, just before 7 a.m., a woman called to report a man walking his bike in the middle of Marston Street. She said the man tried to flag her down as she passed by but she kept going. An officer responded to the area and discovered that the man was seeking help trying to get his bike chain back on its track.

On Saturday, Feb. 25, an officer responded to 55 Highland View Drive for a report of malicious damage done to the TK Lee Repair building.
