How about the Police Department doing a reverse 911 to let the public know that Halloween has been cancelled. It surprises me that it wasn't cancelled right from the get go due to the storm and all the down trees and down wires.

I wonder how many will know that it has been postponed? If you have no power it is darn hard to know what is going on with the world around you. For example, we had no power for 24 hours, we had no idea that there were shelters open. No power, no tv, no computer, no phone. So how are the parents of these kids going to know that Halloween has been postponed? I betcha that there will be kids out tonight! I guess I am trying to say no phone no reverse 911 call!

Kathleen, they asked the schools do "One Call Now" and are posting it on the board in the center of town. Those with power, or access to on-line, have been calling/texting each other to spread the word. Hopefully everyone will be aware before this evening. I'm sure there will be a few people who didn't get notified, but they are certainly doing everything they can to notify people. Hopefully, by notifying the school parents, word will get out to parents with younger children. Reverse 911 is difficult to do, and takes an extremely long time.
I don't understand why TPD can't use "One Call Now" to do town wide notifications instead of reverse 911. But that's another question for another day.

You can have your cell number listed with the Town as well. I get the reverse 911 calls via landline and cell. Hopefully, most people have car chargers to keep their cell phones working.

On another note...is that not the most adorable "jack-in-the-box" you've ever seen? :)

Jeannie I got the reverse call from the school dept that it is November 6th from 6 PM - 8 PM. I left my cell number instead of home phone that way I always get the calls from the school dept..

I agree this is a time to help one another. Spread the news around because I will be demanding that National Grid and the town ASSESS the ongoing ISSUE, collecting signatures from Tewksbury, and other towns to protest this Power Outage. We tewksbury residents with children, the elderly, pets and everyone in general -especially those residents that live south of tewksbury who no matter what kind of weather get hit with a Power Outage; we need make a stand. Both National Grid and the town know this was coming, but the problem has never been assessed, and it sure was not assessed this time around. If you agree and want to stand as one, please advocate for our town and sign your name on that We demand letter that the Power Outage issue be addressed ASAP. Thank You. Tewksbury residents.

Update:
Thanks, Bill Gilman, for clarifying this.
I have delered a post I made so as not to add to the confusion.
The date 2011 is on the heading but easy to overlook.
The conditions - bad weather, power outages, etc. are eerily similar - no pun intended.
I did call the Selectman's office and ask about this. The person I spoke told me that this was not happening. She was right, of course.
So, false alarm.
