Two Arrested, Six Pounds Of Marijuana Confiscated Outside Motel
Traffic stop leads to drugs arrests.
Two people, including an Oakland, Calif. man, were arrested on Wednesday after allegedly conducting a drug deal involving six pounds of marijuana at a local motel.
Chandy Yern, 33, 36 Grove St., Lowell, is charged with Possession with the intent to distribute a Class D substance (marijuana), Conspiracy to Violate the Drug Law, Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License and Failure to Signal. Rith Hov, 40, 1332 E 26th Street Oakland, Calif., is charged with Distributing a Class D substance (marijuana) and Conspiracy to Violate the Drug Law.
According to information provided by the Tewksbury Police Department, the incident began on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at around 11 p.m., when an officer saw a vehicle leave the parking lot of the Motel Caswell on Main Street without signaling properly. The driver was identified as Yern.
"After a brief investigation Tewksbury officers found two large sealed freezer bags full of a green leafy substance which officers believe to be marijuana," wrote Police Chief Timothy Sheehan in a press release.
Further search of the vehicle found four more freezer bags filled with marijuana in a black duffle bag. No additional dugs were found during the search.
The drugs, totaling about six pounds of marijuana, were seized and Yan was placed under arrest.
Officers then learned from Yern that she had just bought the drugs from a man staying at the Motel Caswell. Based on that information, officers obtained a search warrant for the room Yern said the drug deal took place in. Officers executed the warrant, found additional evidence and placed the occupant of the room, Rith Hov, under arrrest.
According to Sheehan, the case remains under investigation.

Don't you feel defenseless? I work hard to earn a good living and I pay my taxes yet I don't get any breaks. I have a "Facebook friend" who lives in this town has 2 kids, pays nothing for education for their children, has an ipad an iPhone and goes on vacation all the time...all the while she is on government assistance. What a great country we live in. Unfortunately the percentage of unproductive Americans relying on government assistance is only growing as a result the country is becoming more and more socialistic.

Joe Bill, I think we all know of someone in this town that does all of the things that you mentioned above, all at our expense. I don't have an IPad, nor do I have an IPhone. (I must not lie, I have a plain ordinary phone with no access to the internet), Why, because I can't afford it. As far as vacations, mine are few and far between. Remember the song from "West Side Story"? (Only in America, land of opportunity, and boy do they all do take advantage of government programs). Free handouts do not happen in foreign countries like they do in America. As I see it, America is not for Americans anymore. We are the minority. I do feel that there should be more overseeing of the welfare system. It is getting out of hand!!!!

Russ Caswell can't do much, but this is exactly what will continue to go on there forever if he does not sell the land and move on. The place is a haven and a known drug den. I would bet my house that 99% of illegal activity conducted there is by people from far away. Pretty sad they know where to go. Russ Caswell may be a decent guy, but he is not running a decent business that is good for the town of Tewksbury in any way.

Funny to me that people in this country are so oblivious to the fact that we are a nation founded by foreigners and built by the perseverance of those said foreigners to not want to be persecuted for their religious and or other beliefs. i'm not a big fan of the caswell motel being in town. it's a well known "house of vice", the cops know this, and i think they do whats in they're power to stop as much as possible without overstepping search and seizure laws.. as for "pedal pushers"?? thats BS, i have school age kids and never want them to hear "its only weed".. its illeaglle.. period .... every single person who use's hard drugs started with weed, thats a FACT.. 90% of all crime leads back to drugs in some way, i'm quite pleased with the job our "small town" police force does. if you think its "somerville with trees" feel free to move on. born & raised here, and i love tewksbury....

Last Friday night I sat in the Pancake house and watched 4 or 5 drug deals go down at Motel 6. Why don't the Feds and you Goodie two shoes go after them and close them down. Because it a large chain !!!! So instead go after the little guy and take away his business.

Acre lots ??? Check your facts Dave, think you will find a vast number of homes on quater acre lots, all of the developments built in the late 50's and early 60's are that way. And as far as open fields Im sure the state hospital will be selling thoughs off in the not to distant future.

My point Zane is a percentage and it is probably close to 30%, are half to 1 acre lots. Somerville does not have any acre lots so it is vastly different. My home was built in 1967 and I have 1.2 acres in town. Many developmesnt in that era were more than a quarter acre. Speculation on the fields, but for now we have them. Tewksbury is far from Somerville. Getting more like a Woburn unfortunately, but not a city yet.

i agree with a lot of what your feeling doreen, but they do have to follow due-process. if not we're no better then a police state. its a real slippery slope to apply law without infringing on personal liberties and consitutional rights. those two establishments are doing a fine job of proving they're a menace to public safety, if only they could PROVE the management was in collusion then RICO statures could come into effect as an ongoing criminal enterprise ... i'm sure the police and town are quite fed up with both places ...

The Caswell isn't as bad as everyone makes it. It has fine rooms and great service. Many of you who talk down about the Caswell have never stayed there. I love the hot tub as well. Cheap prices and great service sounds like a great night to me anywhere. I stayed there 6 times over the last 5 months.

I can't help but agree with my fellow American, Winston. It's a great location filled with beautiful women and other miscellaneous products. I, too, love the hot tubs for the simple fact that after a day of running from the law I prefer to unwind in a heart shaped jacuzzi. I recommend this motel to anyone. It's a great place to take young children and show them the beauties of life.

I had to live at the caswell after a tough time in my life. The staff and owner is nice and do what they can to keep trouble away even kicked out people before that was disturbing other guests. Problems happen everywhere. I have never used drugs, i dont drink and never broke the law. The caswell is doing the best they can. They made me and my pets feel welcomed and safe. Deal with the people that are going to do this stuff anywhere and everywhere and leave the caswell alone. I miss the staff there. If the caswell closed the problems will still be around.

I disagree! If places like this were not around a huge percentage of the problem would be eliminated. Your case is by far the exception not the norm for the Caswell, and I am happy you got your life back on track. Rooms by the hour is not a place that attracts regular folks who just need a place to stay. The owner and staff can be the nicest people around, but what goes on at their establishment is a real problem for the community, nothing positive.

I too disagree, ATaker. I have never even heard of this man Winston. Just because we share the same view of the motel does not mean a thing. Winston - A-Taker and Dave are the same person clearly because they both agree that the hotel is not up to standard. Do you now realize your ignorance? And to Dave, track marks and HIV are involved my ideal night on the town. And the jade has great food. The only bad thing I can say about the jade is the after effect and diarrhea I get from Chinese food. But that's what's so convenient about having a motel across the street.
