The first incident took place early Saturday morning, just before 1 a.m., when the clerk working the night desk at the Motel Caswell called police to report that there were people in Room 231 that he wanted to leave and would not.

Several officers converged on the motel and four North Reading residents, two males and two females, were taken into custody.

Colleen Coughlin, 23, 10 Burditt Road, North Reading, was charged with trespass.

On Sunday morning, just before 9 a.m., when Officer Alysia Russo stopped to check out a suspicious vehicle in the Motel Caswell parking lot. A vehicle check showed the car had been stolen in Salisbury.

Three additional units proceeded to the motel to back up officer Russo and two individuals staying at the motel, a male and a female, were arrested.

Shaun Strong, 28, listed as homeless, was arrested on two outstanding warrants. Briar Pare, 128 Ocean Drive, Seabrook, NH, was arrested on two outstanding warrants and was also charged with larceny of a motor vehicle.

Later that day, just before 1 p.m., police executed warrants and arrested two more people staying at Motel Caswell. Matthew E. Dobbins was also charged with possession of a Class C substance.

Two hours later, police were back at the motel again, this time to arrest Mark J. Szczesuil, 44, 102 Lowell St., Apt. 309, North Reading, on two outstanding warrants.

Isn't it private property? So you see an eye sore and you take the property? Why not take their innkeepers license? Oh, I know because the cops want the cash they will get from the department of justice for taking this property. --

Can somebody at the Patch break down all the police activity that the Caswell and Motel 6 attract and compare it the rest of Tewksbury?

So based on that you want to do what? Take their innkeepers license is fine, but to take their property? Come on... The cops are looking to fill a hole in the budget.

The Motel Caswell has always been a magnet for crime. If it weren't for this establishment the Tewksbury Police Department wouldn't have too much to do. I have been saying it for years, shut down the dump. It is not a Motel but a residence for trouble. I thought that they were being investigated? (Feds) What happened to that? We haven't heard anything recently on that subject.

Again, its the police departments fault that the Caswell is still in business. Get real people.

It is certainly the police's fault for not trying to take the business license.

honestly, look at the bright side..... its a central location for all the crime. if the caswell was shut down, all those loonies would be strewn about the town... at least their all in one spot :)

I dont have an issue with closing down a place if they have been given the same chance as any other business in town to clean up there business.but whats next your friend leaves your house drunk gets arrested and the feds want to seize your house.were does it stop!!!

Fully agree with you dave. I really feel for these people. I have an eye sore down the street, the guy is nice but crazy. I have no doubt that a few of my neighbors would happily push the guy out and have the government take the property. And it goes on and on.... The sad thing here is that people demand action, and some bright accountant in city hall see's a way to pull in a some revenue.....
