Tewksbury Police made nine arrests involving four separate incidents at the Motel Caswell, 450 Main St., over the weekend.

The arrests resulted in charges including larceny of a motor vehicle, drug possession, minor in possession of alcohol and several outstanding warrants.

The first incident took place early Saturday morning, just before 1 a.m., when the clerk working the night desk at the Motel Caswell called police to report that there were people in Room 231 that he wanted to leave and would not.

Several officers converged on the motel and four North Reading residents, two males and two females, were taken into custody.

Kelly McNeil, 24, 10 Green St., North Reading, was charged with trespass.

Derek Hughes, 18, 103 Main St., North Reading, was charged with possession of a Class E substance, as well as two outstanding warrants.

Kevin Blake, 18, of North Reading, was charged with furnishing alcohol to a minor, being the social host who is criminally responsible, being under 21 in possession of alcohol and trespass.

Colleen Coughlin, 23, 10 Burditt Road, North Reading, was charged with trespass.

On Sunday morning, just before 9 a.m., when Officer Alysia Russo stopped to check out a suspicious vehicle in the Motel Caswell parking lot. A vehicle check showed the car had been stolen in Salisbury.

Three additional units proceeded to the motel to back up officer Russo and two individuals staying at the motel, a male and a female, were arrested.

Shaun Strong, 28, listed as homeless, was arrested on two outstanding warrants. Briar Pare, 128 Ocean Drive, Seabrook, NH, was arrested on two outstanding warrants and was also charged with larceny of a motor vehicle.

Later that day, just before 1 p.m., police executed warrants and arrested two more people staying at Motel Caswell. Matthew E. Ponte, 26, of 499 Boston Road, Apt. 1104, Billerica and Katherine Dobbins, 12 9th St., Apt. 403, Medford, were both taken into custody on the outstanding warrants. Dobbins was also charged with possession of a Class C substance.

Two hours later, police were back at the motel again, this time to arrest Mark J. Szczesuil, 44, 102 Lowell St., Apt. 309, North Reading, on two outstanding warrants.

Shoplifter escapes after assaulting managers

Monday, just after noon, police received a call from Market Basket, 10 Main St., reporting that a shoplifter had just left the store. The man was described as caucasian and roughly six feet tall. The caller stated that the man had escaped after assaulting store managers.

Police responded to the scene but the man could not be located. Witnesses were able to provide a license plate number for the car the man left in. Lowell, Dracut and State Police were notified
