Victim In Salem Road Accident Succumbs To Injuries
No charges filed yet against driver who struck pedestrian.

A 61-year-old Tewksbury man has died from injuries sustained when he was struck by a car while walking on Salem Road near the Wilmington town line Tuesday evening.
Terence Morrissey died Friday at the Boston Medical Center, according to obituary information provided by the Tewksbury Funeral Home.
Morrissey sustained traumatic injuries when he was struck by the vehicle while crossing the road near his County Road home at around 6:30 p.m. The impact of the vehicle caused him to flip up over the front of the car, smashing the windshield and damaging the hood before being thrown to the pavement.
The driver of the vehicle, identified only as a 24-year-old female, has not been charged as yet in connection with the accident.
It's unclear if the victim was or was not in a crosswalk at the time of the accident. According to residents, Salem Road has had problems with speeders in the past.
Tewksbury Police are handling the investigation, with the assistance of the State Police Accident Reconstruction Team.

So sorry for the victim and the driver, this poor 24yo has to live with this guilt forever...meanwhile, I was driving down south street later that night and there was a women walking her black dog while wearing a black jacket, black pants, black hat and gloves. Use some common sense folks....even under the best circumstances accidents can happen, let's not make it easier for one!

So sad but by the looks of the motor vehicle that night I thought this may have been the result. My sympathies to family and friends. My sympathies to the driver as well. I doubt her life will ever be the same.

I drive that road home from work every night and never realized there was a crosswalk there. There needs to be more warning that a couple of lines on the road. A light that can be activated by a pedestrain would be the safest. Same thing for cross walks on Main Street where there have been several accidents. i am usually trying not to be blinded by cars coming from the other direction - which unfortunately happens all too frequently in certain spots. An there are too many people walking on the side of the road dress in dark clothing with no reflective protection. My heart breaks for both families. I pray that I never find myself in that situation.

why is the womens name being kept private. it was an accident. hiding her name makes you think it was someone's relative or she was impaired?

Kathy, there have been no charges filed against the driver in this case. Releasing or publishing her name could make her subject to harassment.
However, once the investigation concludes, if charges are filed, her name will be made public.
One way or another, this tragedy is something she will have to live with for the rest of her life.
