Why Are Flags At Half-Staff Today?

Question: Why Are Flags being flow at half-staff today?

Answer: Governor Patrick has ordered the American and Commonwealth Flags lowered to half-staff on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 from sunrise to sunset in honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week.

From the Governor:

Please be advised that in accordance with President Barack Obama’s proclamation, Governor Deval L. Patrick has ordered that the United States flag and the Commonwealth flag be lowered to half-staff at all state buildings from sunrise until sunset on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 in honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week.

This gubernatorial order applies to:

1. The main or administration building of each public institution of the Commonwealth, e.g. town and city halls

2. Other state-owned or state-controlled buildings

3. All state military installations

Wow, Gov. Patrick! Didn't think he had it in him! Would have expected a "We don't care about things like that" type response. (Well, he is practicing to be President, now, isn't he. . . )
