Worcester Man Busted In Tewksbury For 6th Drunk Driving Charge

Suspect will be back in court on July 19.

A 38-year-old Worcester man has been deemed a danger to society after being arrested in Tewksbury for driving while intoxicated for the sixth time.

Steven Letellier was ordered held without bail by a Lowell District Court Judge, pending a possible indictment by a Middlesex County Grand Jury, according to a story in the Sentinel and Enterprise.

Letellier was arrested last weekend by State Troopers on Route 495 in Tewksbury. Troopers had been alerted after a 911 call from a motorist, reporting an erratic driver on I-93 in Tewksbury, according to the Sentinel. He is also charged with operating with a suspended license (subsequent offense), operating under the influence with a license suspended for OUI, and marked-lanes violation.

His five previous OUI convictions date back to 1995. He is due back in court on July 19.

Our gov and legislature hard at work, worrying about bake sales at school, while 5 and 6 time drunk drivers continue to operate in this state...I guess a Kennedy or other Pol's kid has to get killed before anything gets done!!!

Thank you God for the invention of the cell phone and alert motorists who give a damn about the safety of innocent people.

I thought the drivers license gets revoked after a third offense? Finally being reprimanded correctly on the SIXTH offense is not right. He could have killed people.

If the state wants to get serious about repeat drunk drivers I have the perfect solution. If you are caught and convicted of drunk driving the vehicle you were driving gets impounded for the duration of the license suspension. And you are charged a fee. The amount could be $20 per day $25 per day that needs to be determined. No vehicle no driving. If you are driving someone else’s vehicle that’s too bad it gets impounded. If you are caught again the vehicle you are driving gets sold at auction. Tewksbury has 100’s of acres owned by the state as well as other towns across the state. Store the vehicles there. This will prevent morons like this from driving and killing someone.

Good idea. Start a petition online to change the State Law. I bet a bunch of people would sign it.

Blame the JUDGE too. The judge will give him a slap on the wrist and we'll be reading here in a few months about this offender's 7th arrest. No consequences = do it again.

Blame the Judge? Judge Paul Chernoff sentenced Letellier to three years in state prison followed by 60 days in jail, and three years of probation. While on probation, Letellier was to attend alcohol counseling and submit to random testing. What more could he have done? I think he sentenced this one pretty fairly. The vehicle he was driving was stolen, so it is not like he had his own vehicle that he was driving.......read the article in the Sentinel and Enterprise, before you JUDGE.

@ed b that is the most ridiculous thing ive ever heard. i hope you don't ever get an oui from either being careless in a situation were alcohol intoxicates you and you happen to decide to drive. yes it is a bad decision to drive intoxicated but everybody deserves a second chance but not a 5th or 6th. drug ouis carry more of a punishment than anything. they should also start arresting people in tewksbury for drug ouis more often what ive heard from the graduates around town they have been stopped on multiple occasions while smoking and drving or drinking and driving and nothing was done except a ride home to mommy and daddy or just a move it along here boys cause there family is either well known or friends/family of the police. kinda messed up if you ask me. tpd alittle corrupt now? wanna have me put some officers on blast... clean up your act tpd stop harrasing kids and start doing your job.
