Workin' It For a Cause

TMHS DECA holds annual fashion show to raise money for the Meghan McCarthy Research Fund.

Did you ever wish you could go to Mercedes Benz fashion week? Thursday night was a chance to have a little bit on NYC right at Tewksbury Memorial High.

Instead of underfed model, atendees were treated to the lovely ladies of TMHS guiding them through casual wear, athletic, business and prom.

All of these girls (and a few guys) were strutting their stuff down the stage/runway so someone who wouldn’t normally have a future can have a chance.

The show was put together with great care by Lauren Donovan and Hayley Malone, (check out the pictures, in addition to putting on a great show they looked great!) and the TMHS DECA Club to benefit the Meghan McCarthy Research Fund.

To participate in the show, students had to raise a minimum of $75 and some raised as much as $300. The Meghan McCarthy Research Fund is close to their hearts, because Meghan always will be.

Master of Ceremonies Jim Sullivan started off the evening telling the audience  a little bit about Meghan, a member of the TMHS Class of 2011, who passed away in January, 2010 as the result of a brain tumor.

"I learned more from having her in my class for one year, with what she went through and the way she dealt with it ... than in my 12 years here," he said.

According to Sullivan, Meghan never let her disease sideline her, taking part in every activity that she enjoyed including field hockey, track, basketball and DECA.

Over the past 11 years, the Tewksbury High School’s DECA chapter has raised over $125,000 as a result of these fashion shows. These funds have been donated to both the MDA and/or The Jimmy Fund.

Even if you did not have the chance to attend the fashion show, you can give to the Meghan McCarthy Research Fund by texting "DFCI Meghan" to 20222. A one-time donation of $5 will be added to your monthly phone bill.
