What about ''KINGS'' Department store at stadium plaza? The ''Burger Chef'' that burned down near the old post office building? (now used as a ''SPA'') The old ''Stuart's Department'' store at the Oakdale mall?. The original ''Purity supreme'' where they put your Paper bags of food in a bin then used a conveyor belt to push your grocery's out side so you can load your car (same store where Rite Aid just vacated)? When the old Foster School was still being used in the 70's...now condos and the Ball field is now where the police station parking lot is located. The ''Fruit Stand'' now a small strip mall near the ''Old Anchor Restaurant'' then ''A-1 Fish market'' now know as Mavericks Restaurant...Damn am I getting Old

To Sarah and Southie,
Purity supreme started off where Rite Aid was, then moved to the strip mall located across the street from Gold's Gym, Purity renamed the store to Hartland's where they used to sold mostly in bulk items (similar to BJ's or Sam's) The Shopping carts where twice the size of an ordinary cart today. .

Mrs. Trull at the Heath Brook School; going to Sullivan's Store (corner of Foster and Whipple) after CCD; parties at the "pits" behind the elks in the fall/winter(or behind the Roux's) or the electric company in the summer; hiding in the trunk to get into the drive-in for free; Mr. M's (at the original airport diner); eating at the counter at Swan's drug store; going to Pewter Pot for omelets and pilgrim fries; riding around on Sunday's because nothing was open (except maybe Burger Chef)

I had Mrs. Trull in 3rd grade; what an old, old woman ;) I enjoyed the walks home from Heath Brook and sometimes stopping at Sullivan's (Nortie's) for a 2-cent tootsie pop.

Here is an old one for all of you. Nahills Drug Store in the center of town. It was the first drug store in town with a soda fountain. It was where Skewers is now.
And to answer the question from Chris, Woolworths was where the dollar store is now, but it took more space. I am surprised no one has mentioned the Wamesit Drive In!

Good one Karyn! How about Taylor Farms and the Reno? They were both down near the power lines where the dry cleaner is now. Past Friendly's near the car dealer. Taylor Farms showed movies out on the grass one night a week I believe. There was an ice cream stand there.

Before it was Purity it was Elm Farms......And Swan Drugstore was next door. Kings Gift Shop was next and then Jan's Department Store was down a little from there and then Woolworths. I can't remember what else was in there. Imagine if we had that offering of stores today.

Didn't Hartland [or was it spelled Heartland?] revert to a standard Purity Supreme Store before it closed? or am I mixing it up with the one in Billerica that is now O'Connor's Hardware!

Good Question on the spelling Chris, I would guess to say Heartland. I would only be guessing Purity Supreme only renamed this store once it moved the Tewksbury Store. Maybe because they wanted to specialize in ''buy in bulk'' that's why the name change? but as for The Billerica store it was always a standard Purity Supreme as far back as I can remember until they went out of business and moved the Billerica warehouse jobs to Brattleboro VT. (moved the jobs first and then went out of business)

If you remember:
.....Strang's Egg Farm near Revere Road.
.....when Roy's Barber Shop was at the corner of Oliver Road.
....Pizza at "The Oaks".
....Skating on the pond (now filled in) at the end of Lloyd Road.
....when the town library was a tiny room in Town Hall.
...getting polio shots at a public clinic on the Town Common.
Then you have been around Tewksbury for a long time.

I remember the Drive in. Car load of my friends and the rolling lot. I think the price per car was around $1.25. The batting cages, mini golf and go-carts as planes took off and landed at the airport. I took my first plane ride out of TEWMAC. Wow, showing my age! :) Those were the good old days!

Lorraine, You make me tired just thinking about walking all that way. But, I used to walk to the old high school from the middle of Marshall Street everyday. And in the evening after basketball practice. Rain, Snow, Sleet and what have you. A friend and I were sitting on the stone wall in front of the Red Roof one day in the winter. The bus dropped off a woman and she walked in front of the bus and was hit by a car. I can still see her go up in the air, it was terrible! Do you remember anything about that?
