4,300 Tewksbury Seniors At Risk If Tisei and Congressional Republicans Get their Way

Mass. seniors using Medicare have saved an average of $648 from ObamaCare, Tisei wants to repeal it

BOSTON –In the wake of the Supreme Court's decision last month to uphold the Affordable Care Act, known as ObamaCare, Republican Congressional Candidate Richard Tisei reaffirmed his support for repeal of the legislation that has brought critical protections to millions of citizens across the Commonwealth, including over 4,000 senior citizens in Tewksbury. Statewide, seniors benefitting from Medicare have saved an average of $648 on prescription drugs thanks to the bill.

Tomorrow, the Tea Party Republican-Controlled House of Representatives is set to vote to repeal ObamaCare. Failed Republican Lieutenant Governor Candidate Tisei supports this vote for repeal, which would increase prices on seniors’ prescription drugs, roll back free preventative services including mammograms, and take away insurance company rebates for approximately 85,000 families.

“Richard Tisei has yet again sided with Mitt Romney and the DC Republicans who hand picked him and are funding his campaign instead of middle class families in Tewksbury,” said Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair John Walsh. “He has made it clear that he intends to keep fighting to strip middle class Tewksbury families of the health care protections they need and deserve, and to force Tewksbury seniors to pay more for their prescription drugs.”

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says that, thanks to the Affordable Care Act:

•      780,000 people across the Commonwealth receiving Medicare have taken advantage of key preventative services including mammograms and colonoscopies, for free.
•      Over 20,000 young people have been added to their parents’ insurance plans, thanks to the provision that allows young people to receiving their parents’ health insurance up until age 26.
•      Community health centers in Massachusetts have benefited from over $100 million in federal funding.
•      Health insurance companies will be required to provide an average refund of $140 to 85,000 Massachusetts families. The law requires companies who spend too much on administrative services and not enough on care to refund a portion of families’ premiums.
•      Approximately 70,000 Massachusetts seniors saved an average of $648, thanks to the closing of the so-called “Donut Hole.”
•      1.3 million Massachusetts residents now have access to preventative health care services as a part of their private policy.
•      Lifetime limits on health insurance plans have been lifted for 2.5 million people in the Commonwealth.

"If Richard Tisei and his friends get their way, Americans will lose access to preventative care and 85,000 families in the Commonwealth will be blocked from receiving money back from their insurance company," Walsh added. "The Affordable Care Act means better health care for people across the Commonwealth – Richard Tisei just doesn’t get it.”

I work for a healthcare organization and I know many PCP's and specialists that are refusing new Medcare patients because of the reimbursement schedules in Obamacare. They are seriously considering dropping current patients as well. Some who have been patients for 30-40 years.
You are also witnessing the death of small community hospitals. Obamacare (managed care) is all about covered bodies (ie. number of people in your hospitals coverage area) and if you don't have @1.6 million people to draw from, you are not going to survive. That is why Steward and Partners are buying up all of the little guys. They have to keep the patients in the system for all HC instead of just PCP. Also with Obamacare, your PCP will control where you can go for a specialist and get insurance coverage. Once fully implemented, if your PCP is affiliated with Lowell General and you want to see a Boston specialist, the PCP can say sure but you have to pay out of pocket. Or I will only allow 60% of that cost which is equal to the "in system" specialist.
"Better healthcare for people across Massachusetts" I think is a HUGE stretch but we will see.

Bob you are right on. I too work for a healthcare organization and a large one at that. Obamacare or Socialized Medicine is going to negatively impact senior citizens access to healthcare. Working in a large healthcare system, we have community hospitals knocking at our door because they need to partner up or they will not survive. Although I'm glad we're growing, I don't want to see these community hospitals go extinct. Obamacare was forced upon us and in my mind inocrrectly held up by the US Supreme Court. We are moving closer and closer to Socialism. In regards to socialized medicine ask Canadian's or Brit's how it's working in their country's. Access to healthcare is difficult at best in these countries.

Why is political advertising presented as actual articles on Patch? This is propaganda put out by an organization. And I, too, work for a heath care organization and our budget projections are out of whack because of the unknown figures for reimbursement. EVERYONE is going to suffer because of the reimbursement rates for medicare. Either facilities will stop taking medicare patients, or they'll continue to take them at a low reimbursement rate where other areas have to make up for the difference (eventually your insurance premium).

These are blog posts Melissa. Not news. Total opinion of the person writing them.
Open to anyone who would like to post. Our Local Voices in many ways is like an Op-Ed page.

I do think a very large "OPINION" at the header would help. Though I tend not to take anything seriously politically when it pretty much states, "they are all evil and we are right about everything"

Didn't notice the "local voices" header, but I still say it's FALSE. :-)

Under strict Democrat control Massachusetts has fallen to the 28th worse State to do business in. Businesses and Jobs leaving...hmmm I wonder if that hurts our senior’s?

http://www.cnbc.com/id/46415153

Under strict Democrat control Massachusetts is ranked as one of the 10 worst States to retire in. Hmmmm...Since its seniors that retire I’m pretty sure that this fact hurts seniors.

Under strict Democrat control Massachusetts is ranked as the worst States in terms of debt to GNP. Debt will lead to bankruptcy. I’m gonna go out on a limb here and predict that bankruptcy will really hurt our seniors.

I have a quick question for the authors of this article....is it possible to keep a straight face while you are writing such foolishness?

Must be hard.

Didn't you get the DNC memo? It was the 16 years of Republican governors that caused all the problems! Jump on the stupid express Who as they drive us off a cliff and blame the Republicans!

I looked at the cnbc chart and cannot help but wonder about some of those numbers. How is it possible that Infrastructure and Transportation dropped from 29 to 45 in one year? Did some major highways collapse last year?

And if so many businesses and jobs are leaving, how do we have one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country?

Dirk - They look at quality of roads as a measure. As I drive 2 major highways twice a day, I can tell you our highways are horrible. Also look at the issues with the Big Dig! They have to re-surface most of it and as usual in Massachusetts, we get stuck with the bill.
People are leaving with them. We had 10 US Reps now we have 9.
