"Fantastical" Ryan Drama Club (Photos)

The Ryan School Drama club presented "Fantastical Friends" on Friday, February 1, 2013 at the Ryan School.

The Ryan School Drama Club was started in the Fall of 2012 through a $2,000 grant which was pursued by teacher MaryAnn Romanski and parent Dianne Eyssallenne. Target Corporation, through its Local Stores program, offers Arts and Culture grants for schools to help children expand their creativity opportunities and bring a more well-rounded education into the classroom.  The efforts of Romanski and Eyssallenne were successful, and the Drama Club was off and running.

Close to fifty students participated in the production, serving as actors and backstage help. Costumes were borrowed from the high school, other venues, and several were handmade by Mrs. Romanski and Mrs. Jean Chan. The director was Melissa Downey, an educator in North Andover. Stage help was provided by some of the TMHS drama students, and students from the Shawsheen Tech helped with hair and makeup. Teacher Jaryd Palmer provided the sound and light direction, and numerous volunteers including Kim Hillson, Amy Michaud, Heather Mulvey and others contributed to the smooth running of the show.

The Ryan School Drama Club is already planning its spring production of “Round the World and Back Again”. Performance date is tentatively scheduled for May 17, 2013. Students interested in joining the drama club can inquire at the Ryan or through Tewksbury Community Education.
