Hi Hollie, what do you think is the best way to ask out a man in my sons karate class? He is a single dad, and I a single mom...we laugh alot during the class and I would like to go somewhere adult with him..no kids,,thanks

Hello, I think that the best way is to just come out and ask him. I assume that you don't want to play childish games at this point in your life. Jus say something simple like " Hey John, I have a babysitter lined up for Friday night, maybe you could do the same and we could go to that new Italian restaurant that just opened up?" See what happens. If he says yes, then go for it... If he says no, then move on.

Hi Hollie, I have kept my mouth shut for a while and just read everyones comments, but it is about time I spoke. To the guy from your last weeks blog who is pretending to be a cop. Shame on you. Who does that? What a jerk. I think all those people who know who it is should absolutely tell someone. I mean there were all sorts of clues from different people. It seems like everyone knows him. It sounds like this could turn out to be a person with a serious illness or delusion!

I have gotten more responses to this than any other blog question. I believe that anyone who poses as a cop is bad news. I also agree that the person should tell their neighbor the truth about the guy, for the sheer fact that he could very well be sick or need help. I think that quite few people know who it is, it certainly seems like it from the blog posts and it also seem like it has been going on for a while. Unfortunately my advice can only help so much, especially if I don't know the person in question.

I am tired of all the hoopla about the holidays. I do not believe in Christmas and do not want my children to get caught up in the whole "big business" of it. I will let my kids develope their own beliefs as they get older. How do I make this work so that they do not fall for all the hype of a non-existant person and all the bologna that goes with it?

I guess you are entitled to your beliefs as is anyone. Raising your kids with or without believing in Santa and Christmas is certainly your choice. Stopping them from "falling for the hype", well not so sure that is possible. Happy holidays...

I have a great holiday treat, and it's not even mine! It is the most simple and the most fun! Gingerbread Houses! They are so easy to make and the amount of effort can range from fairly simple to extravagant. ( I believe this is even a competition in some places ) I was at a friends house this past weekend, and her husband made one with his boys, and it was beautiful. It really gives you time with your family and you can really let the kids, ( and some adults..James..) use their imagination. Best of all, you can buy the kit just about anywhere this time of the year, you can use what comes in it, or go off the norm and buy all kids of things to add to it, from gum drops to bubble tape, to cotton candy and peppermint candy canes. Have fun, that is the most important part. Shut the TV, play some Christmas Carols (106.7 has them on all day) and just plain enjoy your family.

Hi Hollie, we just did this this past weekend. it made a mess! but i have to tell you, I will take that mess any day. Its those times in life that we really need to realize whats important, especially today.
