Dr. Demetriou's Cubs 1 v. Homans Associates Red Sox 16
Dr. Demetriou's 10U Junior Cubs opened the season at home vs the Red Sox. Unfortunately for Cub fans it didn't go their way. For Red Sox fans it did as the Cubs suffered an opening day loss. A few bright spots for the Cubs; Lexi Polimeno went 1-2 with her first RBI of the season; Ava Nickerson and Adrianna Niles each provided 2 innings of pitching. Alison Manuel and Janitsa Parisi were strong behind the plate.
The Red Sox, sponsored by Homans Associates (www.homans.com), opened up their season on a cold and windy Friday night at Volunteer Field with a great 16-1 win over the Cubs. It was a well played game that showcased the great pitching of Eryn Taber who went three strong innings giving up only one run while striking out six; offensively Eryn also contributed two hits and scored three runs. The Red Sox also had four players reach base four times; second baseman Ashley Giordano and catcher Brianna Iandoli each walked four times and shortstop Alexa Harrington and first baseman Leah Veloz each contributed two hits and two walks a piece to help lead the way to the victory.
