On Sunday November 18th the Tewksbury Redmen Squirt A Hockey Team hit the road for a game against Marblehead at Kasbuski Rink in Saugus and skated away with a convincing 11-1 win. The win ran the current winning streak to 7 games and improved the Squirts season record to 12 wins and 3 losses.
The Redmen set the tone early as Center Kaylen Taddia won the opening faceoff and the "girl power" line of Kaylen, Maci Chapman, and Julia Stanizzi got off 2 quick shots that were turned away by the Marblehead goalie. The Redmen took the early lead just 1:30 into the 1st period as Jake McDonough scored the first of his 3 goals on the day off nice passing from Evan Zonderman and Aidan Silvia. Marblehead fought back and put pressure in the Redmen zone but great plays from defenseman Jared LeGrand and Austin Tingtella kept any potential scoring chances away from the Redmen net. Halfway through the 1st period the Redmen struck again as Maci Chapman worked the puck around a Marblehead defender, skated around the net, sent a nice pass to Evan Zonderman on the right post. Evan wasted no time and sent a hard wrist shot into the back of the net for the 2-0 lead. Evan scored just 32 seconds later to increase the Redmen lead to 3-0. Aidan Silvia won the battle for a loose puck behind the Marblehead net, sending a nice pass to Jake McDonough at the left faceoff circle. Jake fired a wrist shot that the goalie saved but Zonderman was in perfect position to tap in the rebound for his 2nd goal of the game. The Redmen closed out the first period with a 4-0 lead as Timmy Sweeney and Shayne MacDonald worked a nice give-n-go at center ice that found Sweeney flying down the right wing board with the puck. Sweeney sent a beautiful pass to Justin Rooney who buried the puck for his first of 3 goals on the day.
The 2nd period started with Marblehead controlling play but they were unable to break through the Redmen's all-star defensive crew of Chance Fitzgerald, Cam Whealan, Jade Owirka, Trevor Lindsey, Austin Tingtella, and Jared LeGrand. When Marblehead was able to get pucks to the Redmen net, goalie Joey Osborne was there to shut the door, filling in well for Redmen super goalie Caulin Martel who was on vacation. With 5 minutes to play in the 2nd period the Redmen went on a scoring spree, scoring 4 goals in less than 2 minutes. Jake McDonough got things started when he went end-to-end and beat the Marblehead goalie through the 5-hole for the 5-0 lead. Just 12 seconds later the Redmen increased their lead to 6-0 as Evan Zonderman scored his 3rd goal of the game for his "Hat Trick". The Redmen kept coming and 11 seconds later scored again as McDonough notched his 3rd goal of the game for his "Hat Trick" and the 7-0 lead. With just over 3 minutes to play in the 2nd period, Justin Rooney stole the puck from the Marblehead defenseman, skated in alone, and beat the goalie with a hard wrist shot over the glove for the 8-0 lead.
The 3rd period started with a great individual effort by Kaylen Taddia. Kaylen used her speed to beat 2 Marblehead defenders to a loose puck, skated in on a breakaway and fired a hard wrist shot over the goalie's blocker for the 9-0 lead. Just 3 minutes later Justin Rooney scored his 3rd goal of the game for his "Hat Trick" with the assist going to Austin Tingtella. Marblehead was able to get on the scoreboard with 6 minutes to play in the game but the Redmen defense shut the door on any other scoring chances by Marblehead. Trevor Lindsey closed out the scoring for the Redmen as he took a nice pass from Jade Owirka and fired a wicked wrister past the goalie for the 11-1 Redmen win.
