This column will be updated throughout the day with the latest Election Day news.As the dust clears following an eventful Election Day 2010, one fact is clear -- Tewksbury voters do not follow state trends. Even as Democrats were maintaining their virtual stranglehold on Bay State government, Republicans made strong showings in nearly every race in Tewksbury. (Complete Tewksbury results can be found in the pdf attachment.) At the top of the list is state Rep.-elect Paul Adams, R-Andover, who trounced Democrat Patricia Commane in the 17th Essex District. UPDATED ---9:20 p.m. The numbers are rolling in and the results are becoming clear. Jim Miceli has easily defeated Mario Marchese to retain his 19th Middlesex seat in the Legislature. Miceli carried Wilmington and Tewksbury. Paul Adams knocked off Pat Commane to win Barry Finegold's seat in the 17th Essex District. Adams won Tewksbury easily. Jamison Tomasek has carried Dracut and Tewksbury and Andover but Barry Finegold won Lawrence handily and has won the 2nd Middlesex/Essex District State Senate race. Congresswoman Niki Tsongas says that from the beginning of the campaign, she ran on her record. Apparently that was enough for the voters of the 5th Congressional District, who sent Tsongas back to Washington by a comfortable margin Tuesday. With 96 percent of the precincts reporting, Tsongas had 55 percent of the vote. Republican Jon Golnik had 42 percent of the vote. Independent candidates Dale Brown and Bob Clark combined for three percent. In Tewksbury, Tsongas won by just 166 votes (5599-5433). Golnik had hoped to ride the wave of discontent among American voters that swept Republicans …
Despite losing Tewksbury by a 3-1 margin, Jamison Tomasek of Andover cruised to a victory over Tewksbury's Patrick Rahilly to claim the GOP nomination to the State Senate from the Second Essex/Middlesex District. Tomasek, who garnered 59 percent of the vote, will take on Democratic State Rep. Barry Finegold for the seat held by state Sen. Susan Tucker, who will step down at the end of the year. Finegold survived a three-person primary battle, with 38 percent of the vote. Debbie Silberstein (28 percent) and Jack Wilson (26 percent) finished well back.
