JUNIOR LEAGUE MYSTICS 11 STARZZ 7 The Mighty Mystics played a rematch game from week 1 and were able to even the score by beating a very tough Starzz team. They came out with great determination and focus and led the whole game. This was a defensive battle for both teams and I have a feeling we will be seeing them again in the upcoming tournament. JUNIOR LEAGUE MONARCHS 12 LYNX 5 The Lynx fell to a resurgent Monarchs squad on Saturday. The 1st quarter was a back and forth effort with the Lynx getting many scoring chances in the quarter. JUNIOR LEAGUE SPARKS 12 COMETS 8 The Sparks played an incredible game, showcasing their solid passing, good shooting, and strong defense as they won their 3rd game of the year. The Sparks jumped out to an early 8-0 lead but watched as the Comets slowly caught up. COUGARS 34 JAYHAWKS 12 The Cougars played their best game of the season against the Jayhawks and were able to get the victory. Emily Zuraski once again showed great leadership distributing the ball to the open players in the 1st qtr. JUNIOR LEAGUE COMETS 15 ROCKERS 2 The Comets played the Rockers this week claiming victory 15 to 2. The Comets have become a tough defensive group making it hard for teams to score. Still Down 1 player the Comets played gritty defense not allowing the Rockers to get the ball inside on offense. SENIOR DIVISION MAGIC 35 SONICS 24 The Magic beat the Sonics today in senior league play, securing 1st place for the season and a first round bye in the playoffs. SENIOR LEAGUE SONICS 24 PACERS 17 The Sonics outpaced a strong and fast Pacers team. Shannon Smith led the way with 11 points, most while battling through the paint. Shannon also had numerous stuffs and steals. Erica Dirk made her presence known offensively popping in 4 points and playing mad defense. Mariah Wentzell and Jenn Cobuccio chipped in with 3 points each and causing numerous turn overs. Marissa Conlin also found her way into the key for 2 points. INTERMEDIATE DIVISION JAYHAWKS 13 WILDCATS 12 The Jayhawks played a talented Wildcats team in week 8, and had to play tough for all 24 minutes to get the 13-12 win. The Jayhawks came ready to play and got an early first quarter hoop from Emily Burns (yeah Emily!!) to start the Jayhawks off. JUNIOR DIVISION LYNX 10 SPARKS 4 The Lynx were able to win a tightly contested game against the Sparks. Defense was the name of the game in the 1st half with the Sparks holding on to a 2-0 lead. In the 3rd Carolyn Versackas (4 pts.) was able to start off the scoring for the Lynx to take the lead. In the 4th quarter the Lynx were able to stretch the lead behind 4 points by Jessica Caredeo (her first points of the season!). SENIOR DIVISION JAZZ 32 SONICS 21 The Jazz beat the Sonics, 32 to 21, in a game that featured a balanced scoring attack. Eight different players scored for the Jazz. Although not scoring, Dimple Ghandi and Rebecca Keough played tough defense against the Sonics' guards. The first unit for the Jazz jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Intermediate League Cougars 21, Wolverines 10 The Cougars played a very tough game Saturday and got their first win of the young season. The offense was slow getting going against a very stubborn Wolverines defense. The Cougars were trailing 5-6 after the first quarter and 5-8 after the second quarter. After half time the Cougars came out and looked like a completely different team. After coming off a tough loss the first week of the season and now finding themselves trailing after two quarters, the girls new this was decision time for them.
