Several hundred residents turned out Friday as Tewksbury celebrated its heroes with the annual Veterans Day Services. Veterans Agent Jim Williams served as emcee for the event, which featured speeches by several community leaders. The keynote address was offered by Army Major Stephen Flanagan, a Tewksbury native. Flanagan is a highly decorated veteran, having earned, among other honors, two Bronze Stars during three combat tours in Iraq and another in Afghanistan. Even the impending arrival of an historic October snowstorm could not keep hundreds of residents from stopping by Tewksbury High School on Oct. 30 for Applefest. The annual event serves as the unofficial kickoff to the Christmas shopping season. It also serves as a fundraising opportunity for numerous Tewksbury High clubs and organizations. Hundreds of children and their families gathered at the Saunders Recreation Complex for the annual Community Safe Halloween celebration. The Police Department was on hand with vehicles and a K-9 demonstration, as was the Fire Department and DPW. The National Guard also made an appearance. The event was organized by a committee led by Tewksbury Safety Officer Jennie Welch. There were games and activities for the kids and, of course, no shortage of creative costumes. Trick-or-treating in Tewksbury may have been postponed but the students at the Trahan School had the chance to show off their wildest get-ups at the annual costume parrade at the school on Friday.

The Tewksbury Redmen Mite Hockey team skated at the TD Garden on Thursday October 20, in between the 1st and 2nd periods of the Boston Bruins game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Redmen took part in the Bruins "3 Minutes of Fame" Hockey Game. They played a quick game, had their names announced over the intercom and scrolled across the jumbotron. This year's Krochmal Farms Safe Trick or Treat has been a huge success. The attendance has been outstanding, according to a farm spokesperson. A great addition to the events was a handicap lift installed on one of the hay ride wagons. Some children got to experience a hay ride meeting Elmo, Arthur, Pooh Bear, Tigger, Dorothy and the Scarecrow, Mickey and Minnie for the first time in their lives. There is a corn maze, pumpkin picking in the patch, face painting, pumpkin painting and even a petting zoo. Photographer Maggie Judd was on hand and captured these images.
The Tewksbury Fire Department held an open house, Sunday Oct. 9, 2011. Open to the community, visitors were able to learn about fire-safety, have some refreshments, and play with a fire-hose. The Tewksbury Senior Center recently hosted its annual High Tea. The event, which featured a performance by actor Richard Clarke as Mark Twain, was sponsored, in part, by the Tewksbury Cultural Council. Photographer Maggie Judd was on hand and captured these images.
A steady stream of youthful cycling enthusiasts ignored the drizzle and participated in the Tewksbury Police Department's Bike Rodeo and Safety Fair at the Walmart store on Main Street Saturday morning. Kids from Tewksbury and surrounding towns brought their bicycles and rode through a safety course, learning the rules of the road. Dozens of bicycle safety helmets were handed out by School Resource Office Kathy MacLeod, and the kids entered a raffle for a chance to win one of seven new bicycles. The Heath Brook School held its first Run for Reading on September 28. All students who completed their summer reading requirement were encouraged to participate in the run. The Heath Brook Students had a 93% participation rate for their summer reading this year! Students and teachers participated in the run as parents cheered them on.  Pride the Penguin also made an appearance to congratulate the students on a job well done!

The Tewksbury High School Marching Band is continuing a rebuilding process. On Saturday, sporting new uniforms, the band performed during the Redmen's 38-28 win over Andover High. Editor Bill Gilman was there and captured these images.
Hawaii was the theme for a social hour gt-togther last week at Bayberry at Emerald Court during National Assisted Living Week.
Last Wednesday, the Tewksbury Public Library hosted a pajama party. It was a great family gathering with story telling and all kinds of fun. Photographer Maggie Judd was at the event and captured these images.
The Mary Ann Wareham Golf Connection was started in 1998 by Mary Ann Wareham to raise money for the Tewksbury Friends of the Elderly. When Mary Ann passed away in 2002, the tradition continued and was renamed to honor her. Today the fundraising is coordinated by the Tewksbury Senior Center director, Linda Brabant.
Sunday at the Tewksbury 9-11 Memorial next to the library, Tewksbury residents turned out to remember those we lost ten years ago. Those in attendance heard a touching speech by annual speaker Larissa Gay whose father Peter Gay was one of the Tewksbury resident who was killed in the events of 9/11. The fire and police departments commemorated the 10 year anniversary with a reading of the names of the 93 Massachusetts residents who were lost. Local Heroes held their 6th Annual Poker run this Saturday at the Elks Lodge on South Street. Bikers came out to ride about 75 miles and five different stops, pulling a playing card at each stop until each rider had a full poker hand. The money raised went to support local trooops and their families.
Though downgraded to a Tropical Storm, Irene made her presence felt in Tewksbury in Sunday. Thousands were left without power and several roads were closed because of downed trees and wires. Here are just a few of the images from a wild weather day.
Tewksbury Country Club played host to the 8th Annual Tewksbury Youth Skating Association Golf Tournament. The event serves as a major fundraiser for the TYSA, riasing several thousand dollars a year. The weather was just perfect on Friday, as dozens of golfers hit the links.
