Heath Brook School students showed their patriotism in preparation of Flag Day by presenting a Patriotic Play last week. Heath Brook parent Michelle Picher was on hand and submitted these images.
Tewksbury High School rolled out its own version of the red carpet Tuesday afternoon. Couples attending Tuesday night's senior prom were on display at the school's annual "Promenade" in and around the high school gymnasium. Reporter Rick Spencer was on hand and captured these images from a moment and time these students will remember the rest of their lives. A visitor taking a quick look to around the wrestling mats at the Wynn School last Friday night could see just one thing. Champions. League champs, Sectional champs, State champs and New England champs. The men who surrounded those mats last week had collected enough hardware over the years to start their own Home Depot franchise. The men, whose names are just some of those that adorn the Tewksbury Wrestling Wall of Honor in the Wynn gym, were gathered for the Tewksbury Alumni Wrestling Tournament. the event serves as a fundraiser for Redmen Wrestling, the outstanding feeder system for the …
The Trahan Elementary School had a Ice Cream Social with DJ Sounds playing in the gym.  It was an electric high energy get together.  The ice cream was awesome students (and teachers) had a blast. Photographer Maggie Judd was on hand to capture these images.
Residents of Tewksbury gathered together on Saturday for the first Townwide Cleanup Day. According to Selectman David Gay, one of the organizers of the event, participants were divided into units to attack three sections of Route 38. One group was down near the Lowell town line. Another group was in the center of town, around the common. A third group was out in the area around the former Piccadilly Pub. According to Gay, the teams were able to collect trash that filled close to 40 large trash bags. "I think we were able to accomplish quite a bit. We were very pleased," said Gay. Participants…
The 5th annual Murph’s Fun Run, a six-mile race through Tewksbury, took place Saturday. The race was organized to celebrate the life of Jerry Murphy, a Tewksbury native who died prematurely at the age of 58. Runners, many in wild costumes, compete in teams, and in addition 'to completing the course, they have to complete challenges along the way. The proceeds generated from the race go to the Jerry Murphy Memorial Scholarship Fund. Organizrs seek to fund four $1,000 scholarships for students of Tewksbury Memorial High each year. Bieber Fever is alive and well in Tewksbury. Teen fans rocked out Monday at the Tewksbury Public Library Justin Bieber Party. There was music, dancing, videos, food and, of course, Justin Bieber. The Friends of the Tewksbury Senior Center hosted their annual Benefit Breakfast on Sunday.  As expected, the food was delicious and everyone left full.  If you came hungry, you sure did not leave that way. There are many schools across the United States that put together fundraisers to aid in the humanitarian relief efforts for Japan. But the students, staff and parents of the Trahan School took it a step further and combined a fundraising activity with a chance to learn about a cherished piece of the Japanese culture --- Origami. Origami is the Japanese art of folding pieces of paper is various images, particularly animals. In the case of Trahan, the students, teachers and parents created cranes. The Tewksbury Food Pantry was in full force Saturday, receiving food from the U.S.Postal Carriers 19th annual food drive along with the Tewksbury Lions Club making a $7500 cash donation. The Lions Club has now donated over $40,000 to the Tewksbury Food Pantry over the last 10 years. According to Todd Johnson, president of the Food Pantry and chairman of the Board of Selectmen, around 200 households receive one week of  food a month from the Food Pantry. According to Jim Carter, treasurer of the pantry, the number of households supported has grown 250 percent over the last two years.  Two …

On the Fourth of July last year Randy Pierce and his dog Quinn climbed Mount Washington. No small feat, especially considering that Randy has lived with complete loss of vision for over a decade. Randy has plans to hike all 48 of the 4,000-plus foot peaks in New Hampshire by 2020, only accompanied by his guide dog and some help from the VisionQuest 2020 team. Sure it rained. but that's no reason to cancel an Easter Egg Hunt. On the Saturday before Easter, the staff of the Assembly of God Church on Andover Stret made a quick shift in plans and moved their edd hunt indoors, hiding some 2,000 eggs throughout the church complex. Little League Baseball Opening Day under sunny skies. It doesn't get much better than that. And so it was, Sunday afternoon, as Tewksbury Youth Baseball officially kicked off the 2011 campaign. The players marched in a parade from the Ryan School to the fields on East Street. Ceremonies at the field included speeches by politicians, the National Anthem by Jordan Ezekiel, the Little League Pledge by Anthony DeSisto, and the Parents' Pledge, recited by Peter Cafferty. Did you know the moon snail's tongue can lick through the shell of a clam or that a toad uses its own eyeball to help swallow insects? Pete Money of Natural Discoveries is a life and earth science educator. He and his crew of creatures and artifacts came to teach the 5th grade class at the Ryan School about the adaptations of different predators. Maybe we can blame the recent wet weather on the Tewksbury Public Library. After all, many children stopped by the library last Friday and participated in an Earth Day celebration.  Children made Rain Sticks out of recycled materials. As part of its ongoing effort top reach out to the community, the Lowell Assembly of God, located on Andover Street, presented a re-enactment of the crucifixtion of Jesus Christ on Good Friday. Church member Carl Root portrayed Jesus, standing on a small platform atop a 20-foot cross. A handful of church members dressed in their professional uniforms and others in the attire of their homelands to convey the message that Jesus died for all people. Students, parents and school staff joined forces last weekend to clean up the Center Pre-School Playground on Pleasant Street. Trash pickup, raking and general organization all were part of the project. Teamwork made the project a success and photographer Maggie Judd was on hand to capture these images of the efforts.
