TEWKSBURY SCTP SEASON GETS UNDERWAY!
Tewksbury SCTP Program (Scholastic Clay Target Program) gets its’ 2013 youth trap shooting season underway.
The Tewksbury Rod & Gun Club is pleased to welcome returning SCTP Team members for the ATA 2013 trap shooting season. The club SCTP coaches Steve Stella and Wally Bristol also welcomed guests who attended the annual family meeting on Thursday evening, February 14, 2013. Interested parents attended along with their prospective youth shooters. They were given all necessary information about what benefits and costs are for new families joining our team. This was an oportunity to get all their questions answered in one evening.
Tewksbury SCTP is beginning its fifth season of training and instruction in competitive trap shooting which with our special training will ultimately lead our teams to the Massachusetts State (ATA) Shoot on June 8, 2013. Our three certified coaches, Head Coach Steve Stella, Coach Wally Bristol, and Coach Mike Capozzi along with our SCTP adult volunteer Dale Shultz will prepare these young shooters for the many youth competitions planned this year.
Our annual SCTP shotgun safety training will be held on March 30, 2013 at our club facility. Once again this year our NRA instructor will be Dana Crowe from our TR&GC Junior League Rifle program. We will meet from 9 AM to noon for this training. This training is free to our SCTP team, or $15 to others but requires pre-registration by March 16, 2013.
Our team runs a Comedy Night annually to raise money for this program. This year we will have Frank Santorelli, Jim Lauletta, and Danny Crohn as our talent on February 23, 2013. Funds raised by this event allow us to equip and dress the team, as well as provide NRA rank awards, lunches and some help with expenses when on the road.
As everyone is aware, the costs of everything has sky rocketed in the past few years. Our trap shooting program has experienced and struggles to cope with this same issue. Last year we asked for business sponsors to help these kids and their families afford to participate. We received a tremendous response, with several companies stepping up to help us out. This year we are reaping the benefits from these generous companies as they all have renewed for another season. Our kids can continue to shoot in as many competitions as possible, without the inherent additional costs to their family.
ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible a child must be in a Primary / Elementary, Middle, Junior or Senior High School (not graduated) or home schooled and not have reached their 19th birthday.
We are still seeking a few more youth trap shooters. If you have a son, daughter, niece, or a nephew that is interested in joining our SCTP program, there is still time. There is no requirement that a parent or guardian must be a member of the Tewksbury Rod & Gun Club to participate as a family in this program. Coaches can be contacted thru e-mail links located on our club’s web-page. http://www.tewksburyrodandgun.org/SCTP/sctp.htm
