Active Heroes, Carry the Fallen - Team Minutemen

Carry the Fallen - Team Minutemen

When: November 10, 2013...
Where: Boston Marathon Route

Honor our fallen military heroes and join Carry the Fallen - Team Minutemen in a ruck march covering the Boston Marathon Route on Sunday Nov. 10, 2013. The march will last from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. with opportunities to join and leave throughout the day.

Carry the Fallen - Team Minutemen aims to raise $10,000 for Active Heroes, a 501(c) (3) charity that provides veterans and military families with financial support and programs geared toward combating PTSD and veteran suicide.

“I decided to do this event because there are too many veterans that do not have a support system when they come back from multiple deployments overseas,” said event creator Darren Nichols. “It's a sad thing. Many of my friends have lost members of their unit to suicide. I’ve heard of five in the past two weeks alone.”

Everyone is welcome to join in the march for no cost. Each team member will need to bring a rucksack or backpack filled with anything he/she may need throughout the day. The march will begin and end along the Boston Marathon Route starting in Hopkinton, MA, and working our way through Boston and then back to the beginning.

Though the march is free, event fundraising is underway. It began on Aug. 30 and will end the day of the march, Nov. 10.

In the first week of the event’s creation, Carry the Fallen has spread from Austin to 14 cities in 11 states and into Canada. Carry the Fallen hopes to raise a total of $30,000 in the next two months.

According to a study released by the Department of Veterans Affairs, about 22 veterans commit suicide each day. Join Carry the Fallen and Active Heroes to help bring that number down to zero
