Design! Build! KEVA! Free Exhibit Opening Celebration Friday January 17th 4:30 – 8:30pm

Acton, MA – The Discovery Museums are hosting a new traveling exhibit—a combination art gallery and construction lab—of 15,000 KEVA Planks from January 10 through May 18, 2014.  To celebrate the exhibit opening, the Museums will host an evening of free admission on Friday, January 17th, from 4:30 to 8:30pm.

KEVA planks are identical hardwood maple blocks measuring ¼” x ¾” x 4½”. Every piece is precision cut so they fit together perfectly and create surprisingly stable structures. The magic is in the simplicity: since every piece is exactly the same, there is no need for glue or connectors or special pieces.  KEVA Planks require just simple stacking so even young children know what to do, but few parents can resist the chance to get in on the action.

“Building and creating come naturally to kids,” said Neil Gordon, CEO of The Discovery Museums. “The beauty of the KEVA Planks exhibit is that there will be an enormous supply of them, so kids and families can really exercise their creativity and have fun together.  We are really excited to bring this special exhibit to our visitors.”

Many pre-built structures will be on display to inspire visitors to build their own creations. They range from very simple stacked structures for young children to elaborate brain twisters that are a challenge even for professional architects and engineers.

Design! Build! KEVA! is generously funded by Boston Foundation for Architecture and JM Coull, Inc.
